I'd say those are plenty bright. I don't think anyone would hassle you as long as they illuminate and you can see them. I mean how the hell are you gonna accurately measure the distance and how much it's illuminated anyway?

Some cops carry rulers in their gear bags smiley_smartass.gif

And some departments have these weird lil light guns that measure brightness or lack there of of some sort.. unsure.gif I think the same "gun" also measures how dark ones tint is?

As far as lighting is concerned you are fine. Looks good and a heck of a lot better than some of the rice rockets I've stopped. Only issue you may have is when getting the bike inspected. Make sure that any aftermarket lights have the "DOT" stamp on them somewhere.

Based on your pictures, you should not be stopped at all for the lights. Now how far you twist your right wrist is another story.....

thanks. if you don't mind me asking, which county are you from?

i've had it out almost every day and i haven't been stopped yet. i've had buddies ride behind me and they say they can see it fine. the only concern is a big rig and the height of the cab at close distances.
i've been on a RR forum since i got it and some guys are getting '03-'06 tail lights and trimming them and cramming them inbetween the tail tip and the pipe. it ain't really "clean cut pretty" but it definitely adds some extra lights back there. i might try it.

500ft ruler in a gear bag would be interesting.... laugh.gif

It only measures light transmission on window tint that's it. Plus those are expensive so most departments don't buy them. I think our department(350 sworn personnel) has 2 of em which belong to the traffic unit. I've seen 1, yes one, citation in almost 8 years of working dispatch for tint violation. DPS use to carry them but I don't think they even do, most officers don't care about window tint. It isn't good PC cause easily bunked as you have no way of knowing for sure whether that tint is illegal or not while passing by from a legal stand point. Sure you can tell limo and mirror tint is illegal but all they have to say can you measure light transmission while moving or with the naked eye then it's questionable to a jury. In any other words the traffic code is 400 pages give or take there is plenty of other things to stop someone on if you are just hell bent on busting off some tickets or really want to stop someone.

Legally you can stop someone to verify they even have a drivers license, you can stop motorcycles to make sure they have an M license and can even stop them to make sure their wearing a DOT helmet or have their insurance waiver to go without a helmet. It's all lame and really loose PC but you see my point. It's more solid than window tint or dim tail lamps and brake lamps.

i am not 100% of SOP and laws here, but i think a bike is the same as a vehicle. they have to have PC to stop you. sure, they can stop and check to measure the lights, but they can't pull someone over just to check for a M license as far as i know.

they are also not allowed to pursue here, AFAIK. if that is a city, county or state thing, i have no idea, but i wouldn't high speed evade anyways.

i didn't like jail the first time, i don't wanna go back. wink.gif

You have to have PC to stop anybody anywhere in the United States, traffic violations are PC. USDOT trained enforcement officers going after 18 wheelers being an exception. In actuality all you need is mere suspicion to stop and investigate to see if anything is going on but that really covers like vehicles coming from a business blacked out at night when the business is closed that kinda stuff. You aren't gonna stop someone driving down main st in the middle of the day just on the premise they did something slightly strange and you wanna see what their up to. Verifying a DL or helmet stuff is considered PC by Texas as it is spelled out in the traffic code that you can. I'd personally never use it as it's very weak and easily broken down because the first thing they will do is wanna know how many other vehicles you've stopped for the same thing. When you say zero, they'll wanna know why this one?

Probably not allowed to pursue, a lot of departments are going to no pursuit policies unless it a fleeing felon other than committing the felony of evading in a motor vehicle. Too much danger to the public to chase a dope head or dope dealer just cause they refused to stop for not using their turn signal. Now of course there is usually a reason they are running but you don't know that and they just could be scared. Still a stupid reason to run but if you or they wrecked out killing a family and they had no dope, no warrants and were just running cause they thought they might get in trouble. It's gonna be bad. I have mixed feelings and understand both sides. If the officer uses good judgement and won't let his pride override his sensibility he will call off a pursuit if its gets too dangerous but as we all know not all police officers have sense nor stay level headed.

cool. i appreciate all the replies and it looks like i'm gtg with this setup. thumb.gif

i don't want this thread to go downhill, so if whom-ever mod's it wants to lock it, that is fine.

i don't mind a good thread about squids and laws and flinging crap either way, but not in the LEO section. i realize this is a serious section and i want to keep it as such.

thanks to all that replied. smile.gif
