Can I ask what part of Ohio your in? Lookin at a trip out there next year, possibly this season if I could but most likely next. Do you know if NR tags and license are OTC or draw? Is Ohio crossbow friendly, my friend I will be bringing with me has a medical card for Illinois so that he can hunt with one. Thanks for any input, much appreciated

I live in Alliance Oh. It's in the NE corner in between Youngstown and Canton.
All Ohio tags can be bought over the counter or online and crossbows are legal. PM me your addy and I will send you a current 2009-2010 regulations book.
Where do you guy's plan on hunting? I have walked 1,000's of acres literaly, and have maps of most of the public grounds I could send you as well.
I also have private land access but that is going to cost you a couple of beers.

Well I'm trying to make it a do all trip. Along with hunting there are some people I'd like to meet and some I'd like to meet again. I have a guy workin on a 200 acre private land for us to hunt on the West Central side of the state.
I would really appreciate a book. That would be outstanding. The NE side may be a little far for us for a first trip but if it all works well it may be a yearly event. I'm guessin our first run will only be a 3-4 day trip after that who knows.

PM inbound. Thanks!!!!

Edit: I'll say thanks again but save you shipping cost, I found the book online! Thanks bud.

The deer herd in that part of the state is pretty low #'s per sqaure mile but they do get some whopper bucks over there every year. I hunt about 1 1/2 hours south of where I live and that area boasts some of the highest deer density and monster racked bucks in the state.

I was just noticing that on the map in the book. looks like a section in that area has a pretty high population. Muskingum county area, the county north, can't read it. I need to print this off so I can see it. anim_rofl2.gif

Those are some hot spots but limited public land.
I hunt mostly in Harrison, Belmont, and Guernsey counties. One area I hunt is 14,000 acres of public land and it's loaded with deer and turkey with quite a few black bear sightings as well. As long as I go in deeper then the average hunter my success rate is pretty high.
When do you plan on heading over to the Buckeye state?

Well we were lookin at maybe next season but possibly this coming. It is something we just started talkin about doin. So no real set dates at this point. Is your rut about the same as ours? Ours is usually pretty hot a week or so (give or take) before Thanksgiving.

That seems to be the typical time frame here as well, anywhere from 2 weeks before to a week after Thanksgiving. I think the second rut is more intense but the deer have been educated by that time.

Hunting the rut can be exciting and unpredictable, you never know what is going to walk by your stand. oh yea.gif
