While .22lr doesn't make a good round through a 5.56 barrel, it does pretty good with a 5.56 can. The diameter difference is only .001".

As long as your barrel will as long as you do not abuse them.

.22 performance through a .223 silencer can be as good as a dedicated .22 suppressor, but there are many exceptions.

Many inexpensive .223 cans get a lot of internal volume with a large expansion chamber. Silencers with large expansion chambers are generally great with the high pressure of a .223 round, but can suck ass with the relatively low pressures of a .22

As an example... I have an AR15 .22 conversion that I almost always use a Tac-16 with because it makes it look like an integrally suppressed weapon... Looks cool as hell. but my SWR Warlock, which is a dedicated .22 silncer, sounds much more quiet.

Further... My Gemtech Halo does much better on a .223 than the Tac-16 does. But put a .22 through either of the .223 suppressors, and there isn't a discernable difference between the two of them. But again, the Warlock is noticably quiter.

Don't get me wrong... I'm not disappointed in using the .223 silencer on a .22.... I'm just more impressed with a really good dedicated .22 silencer.

I have never heard the HTG Universal, but according to tests done by John Titsworth, it is a great silencer in both calibers.

TS

just for reference the number I blued in the quote from TS can be gauged by this lil tidbit...
a standard sheet of A4 paper(the paper you will find that is commonly everywhere, just open yer printer or copier drawer) is .032" in thickness, I use it all the time for touchoffs on mills
