I have really only started thinking about it in any seriousness, and I am very unimformed when it comes to suppressors and laws regarding them. I am not certian I want one, but I have given it a lot more consideration recently.

I know they are legal in my area, I have a LEO checking on who exactly I need to speak with/write about the required signature.

Are quick detach suppressors any less effiecent than standard thread on, or intergral suppressors?

What would you recommend for a guy who can't make up his mind which one of his .22lrs he would like to suppress, but has access to people who can thread barrels as needed.

Advice, recommendations, warnings etc?

Well with the signature, you will need the chief or deputy chief if in the city limits or Sheriff if County to sign the Form 4

Worth it, yes sir they sure are if you get the right one.

Now with a .22 it should be a thread on can and I would do a thread on.

I agree with Neil.

Start with a good .22 can, the vast majority of which are screw-on cans with 1/2x26 threads.

I have threaded barrels for the follwoing .22s:

Ruger 77/22
Ruger 10/22 (x2)
CZ Kadet
Browning Buckmark
AR15 conversion

By Far, the quietest host is the bolt-action 77/22. All the rest are semi auto, and you get a little bit of noise from the action. With the 77/22, all you here is the firing pin and a short sneeze-like sound which is much quiter than a bb gun

So is the .500-26 a standard thread for the screw on cans for 22's?

Any reccomendations on brands?

I take it that QD attached suppressors aren't as quite as threaded ones?

What about suppressors that work both for 5.56 and .22lr

What about 1/2X28?

I already have two .22s with this thread.

Sorry about the typo... I meant 1/2 x 28.

The SWR Spectre and the AAC Prodigy are 2 that I would recommend. I have a SWR Warlock, which when I bought it, was the quietest one around. The Spectre is newer, and teh Prodigy is suposedly one of the best there is, but last I heard, you may wait a while to get one.

QD mounts, in theaory, are a little noisier because... in theory... they don't seal the muzzle as well as a screw on. But most .22 cans are screw on.

The HTG Universal has had good reviews, and can handle both .223 and .22. but, it is also larger than a dedicated .22 suppressor.

I don't really like shooting anything larger than 9mm with a suppressor...Even a .45 is still pretty loud with a suppressor. A good subsonic 9mm or .22 is spooky quiet, though.

I use a screw-on .223 suppressor on an AR15 .22 conversion, which gives it an "integrally suppressed" look since it is so thick. That .22 AR15 is as much fun shooting suppressed in semi auto as my MP5 is in full auto.

I have also thought about getting one. Got any good links with legal info. I was told that if you own a class 3 that basically the atf can come in at any time and inspect where the weapon resides is this true with suppressors. I dont have anything to hide just dont like the idea of the atf having free reign over my house.

That's one of the biggest internet myths out there.

The ATF can give surprise inspections to class 3 dealers. But we citizens who acquire NFA items via a Form 4 transfer or a Form 1 (make a SBr or Silencer) have nothing to fear. You are still protected by the bil of rights, including search and seisure. they need probable cause to come knocking on your door.

Yes sir they do, the only thing like CZ75 pointed out is the 22 barrel is threaded with the 1/2 X 28 thread pitch.

Now I would purchase a .5.56 can and use it for the .22 and 5.56, once you shoot 300 rounds of .22 through the can, then run 30 rounds of 5.56 through the Can to clean it out and if you are still puffing after the 30 rounds run another through it to burn out the built up carbon.

I didn't see it advertised on their sight.

Will 5.56 suppressors work well with .22lr?

Very interesting. What about pressures? Does it accelerate wear? How long do suppressors last?(rounds)
