This morning was the Youth weekend Opener in much of Texas. We arrived at the set up this morning having to literally kick Hogs out of the way.
I carried the little 1894( just in case we ran into hogs) with me and he carried his regular 336 in 30-30 with jacketed bullets. When the sun started to peek up and we realized Hogs were all we'd see, I handed the little 44 off to my son. He went to work on the sounder, trying to perfect that Wall O' Lead technique that I keep reading about. I keep the 1894 stoked with RCBS 44-240-SWC gc homecast out of wheel weights.

We are going to back off the area for a week in hopes they will leave. They need to be shot out, but continual gunfire in the area will not only move them but also the deer we were after. The DAMNED things just showed up this morning. Been watching this particular rim for a week now and it's surely where we need to be as I have a couple of good bucks picked out for the boy. Just the Luck Sometimes!

At least that young man is outside blasting those hogs. I bet he was very happy. I went duck hunting with an old friend this morning, didnt fire a shot and still had fun.

He had a blast but was disappointed as we were after a pretty good buck that I had scouted for him in the area. Those deer and hogs dont play well together. Deer just leave.

Heck yes ! Buckshot anytime out in the woods or on a lake with the kids or friends makes the whole year long wait worth it!

He has a couple of months to catch up with a good buck. My money says he'll pull it off.

Good luck with the deer. A couple of months is plenty of time to get a chance at his buck.

At least he was able to be in the outdoors and experience the hunt even if not for the intended game.

The deer hunt may have been a bust but getting a couple of pigs with the old man, those times are hard to beat. Congrats on the hogs and good luck on the future Whitetails.
