I have been researching compact pistols lately, and have been very interested in Springfield Armory's EMP, and H&K's P2000sk. The P2000sk is smaller, and lighter than the EMP, but it is also made by H&K which everyone either loves or hates. 'Sup with that? Take note that I am a total nooblar to the "H&K is great" vs. "H&K must die in a fire" debate. This is your chance to convert me to your camp of fanbois.

Does anyone own either pistol and what has been your experience with them?

H&K makes some excellent pistols, it is mainly their relations with the public that has tarnished their image.

If I were to get a compact H&K it would be an USP, nothing else.

I think you would be much happier with the Springer, in my eyes it is a more comfortable gun to carry and easier to shoot (being SAO).

If you get an H&K P2000, shoot it first, especially with the LEM trigger.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, that was funny.

I like the look at features of a USP. What made me more interested in the P2000sk was it is considerably lighter and smaller. Is there a way I can get my hands on a P2000 to shoot it before I buy?

What kinds of goings on tarnished their image?

Depends on the gun stores in your location. Some have guns to rent, others do not. no.gif

H&K if very fervent in regards to lawsuits. A lot of people are upset with H&K for their legal actions with ATI and the GSG rifle.

Gosh and golly-gee willickers pleaforwar, SPELL IT OUT ALREADY. I couldnt find any details on what you are talking about other than more griping about H&K's poor image among gun buffs.

I looked at dealers who carry H&K in my area. Id have to drive an hour and a half to even find a dealer that sells them at all. I might try to call a dealer in the city where my fiance is from, I gotta go arrange some wedding stuff with her in a few weeks, and that dealer carries those guns.

Whooop, discovered that the P2000sk has not safety features other than an internal drop safety which is disengaged in the first few millimeters of trigger pull. I wont touch that with a ten foot pole. EMP it is.

Good to go, it's really hard to translate tone over a forum, hence my reaction. I'd love to help you, talking guns gives me something to do during these late hours. bigsmile.gif

Basically, it boils down to this: H&K makes some quality products, but their actions have upset some people in the shooting community. If you aren't upset by it, then I would have no problem recommending a H&K. thumb.gif

Actually the SA/DA model has a decocking lever.

Yeah, I saw people talking about having a decocking lever, but I was raised around safeties and I am not comforable without a switch that shows me the gun is safe. I dont like XD compacts for the same reason. The EMP is smaller than the USP compact, so I am very probably going that route for CC. Definately gonna get me a USP though. Sex-ay pistol.

The USP Tactical is the first gun that drew my attention to the tactical side of firearms (a few years ago I was all about shotguns and nothing else), so I agree.

HK is "hated" because of their customer service when concerned with individuals (you can be Active Duty and they couldn't care a flying fuzz). Their customer service only deals with large organizations like an entire SWAT unit and things of that sort. Also, they will only sell certain products of theirs to either PMC, contractors, or a military. Last I checked their HK 416 was taken off the civilian market.

However... I personally own a HK USP Tactical in .45 flavor and the only reason I didn't spring for the Mk. 23 is because of cost. However, I have put over $400 into this gun (laser and flashlight) and I wouldn't trade it for anything else in the world (OK I may take Eisenhower's issued 1911 or something of that sort). The QC of HK is absolutely insane. From what I hear there is less than 1 in a million of anything that comes off their production line that doesn't make the cut and I have yet to hear of someone getting a lemon.

The only downside I can think of to an HK besides cost is they're not showpiece guns. What I mean is, I find that they are somewhat easier to put small scratches and scuff marks on them compared to other guns I've owned. But then again, I'm also of the philosophy that every small imperfection be it a scratch or a chip is character added to the gun so I take no efforts to prevent my weapons from being scratched up externally (I store two AR-15's in the same side of a bag and they do quite a number on each other). My weapons are tools, not display pieces. The externals are taken care of to the point that they function like they should.

If you've got the money I'd jump on the P2000 or a USP Compact. I know you said the USPc seemed too big, but I CC my HK USP Tactical with a laser, flashlight, and compensator and I've got a small frame so I'm sure you can make it work.
