QUOTE (Stickman @ January 4th 2009 11:25 PM) Special Teams were using them, and they were breaking parts. Over, and over and over. Watching guys on the team pull their triggers and have nothing happen isn;t a very good feeling, especially when one of those guys was my partner.
This was .40 cal USPs, not the 9s or 45s. Its possible it was a bad lot or production issue, but HK continually stated there were no problems, it often took 6-12+ months to get the replacement parts.
Its a shame, I really like the feel of the USPs, but there is no way I would get one in 40 cal.
For clarification, this was me standing on the line as an instructor watching these failures, this isn't second hand info or internet rumor. what parts were breaking, over and over and over again? and if it took 6+ months to get new parts, you witnessed the new parts fail again, and again...? and how many rounds did they fire through the guns prior to failure? and how new/used were these guns prior to this occurrence? Do you know what type/brand ammo was used?

QUOTE (Energizer @ January 3rd 2009 7:53 AM) yeah, but I also gave a link to Clyde Armory, which sells them to civilians for $750 WITH night sights AND an extra magazine, both of wich are not cheap. subtract the cost of the extra mag and night sights, and you are at $600-$650-- not much more than a full size Glock, but a much better gun than a Glock, but also more expensive to service.
Wasn't arguing about the mag release, although I like the USP release as well as the Walther PPS release which are similar.
What is "goofy" about it? I do have a question-- which finger are you using to release the magazine on a USP? your thumb? Try using your index/trigger finger instead. Clyde Armory is where is got my HK USP .40. Payed 670 for it about two years ago and it was NEW. Came with the 3 13 rd mags and the night sights. Never had a malfunction. Little pricey but I think I got a pretty good deal.

I paid far less than that for all of mine... anyway, $670 two years ago was CHEAP, considering you got an extra mag, and night sights.

H&K, like FN is a defense contractor, first and foremost. Their weapons are the 'typical' over-engineered weapons one would expect from a German concern. H&K has done an excellent job of marketing their wares to the world's military and law enforcement communities, perhaps this is what accounts for some of the 'price snobbery' associated with the firm's products. I was more impressed with H&K's sub-guns (e.g., MP-5(N)/10mm). The handguns are also quite accurate and robust. I have never experienced the 'production-faults' alluded to by another member, usually the Germans are very quality conscious-oriented to say the least. This is not to say a particular 'production-run' may have had a serious glitch. I do like the HK USP, but would opt for a SIG, Hi-Power, or CZ-75 under 'actual' combat conditions.

I have a HK USP .45. I really like this handgun but would love to have a HK USP 10mm. I wrote a lengthy letter to HK giving multiple and valid reasons to produce a USP 10mm. The response I got back from them was downright rude. I have never purchased an HK product since then.

I'll have to check with a couple of HK armorers that I know. And to think, HK rates these GTG for +P and +P+ loads! Any chance your guys were using some hot loads? What parts were failing? Poo! I don't like the sounds of this! I best just stick to my P-245!

QUOTE (Skidz @ December 31st 2008 2:23 PM) I hate the decocker as well. Too many times when flipping off the safety quickly, it goes all the way down and trips the decocker, what an annoyance.
The mag release though, I actually prefer, I just use my trigger finger. My hand doesn't lose any bit of its grip strength or hold like it would in using the thumb, and it's not like I am going to be pulling the trigger when changing mags. The mag release just seems a little flimsy in appearance--lasts forever--but looks cheap--but i do look being able to use the trigger finger as well as the thumb

I got a good deal on one from a auction. (.40 cal full size) When it arrived at my gunshop it showed some holster wear. Since then I have put a good 250+ rounds through it with out any issues and I shoot it more accuratly than any of my other pistols. So impressed that I purchased another (.45 compact) If you have the spare cash or can find a good deal on one of these, go for it.

I have the USP Compact in 40 with bobbed hammer and love it. Its very accurate, excellent trigger, controllable and reliable. I taught my sons to shoot using this pistol.

Not in hand yet unfortunately, thanks to Commiefornia's mandatory 10 day hold. I'll have it on the 22nd though. Nearly new, less that 600 rd count, 5 mags, Marine to Marine sale, $700.
