QUOTE (OSP1340 @ July 4th 2008 5:52 PM) *
I don't? Really? My Dyna will out ride any softail. Softails are bigger, heavier and have a longer wheel base which doesn't go well for tight turns.

Why do you think PD's use Roadkings and such (outside of the bags)? They have a shorter wheel base for better handling and balance better.

Besides I never said anything about Baggers, just softails. I've rode Sportsters, Dynas, Sloptails and baggers.

I gave my opinion on one bike that I did ride and which happens to be the one he liked.

You must be one of those guys that think your ride is the best and all others are not worthy.

Oh and the "external shock" thing, if I recall correctly, Baggers have external shocks. I can and many have put air shock on Dynas.

Thanks for proving most of my points. The reason Police use FL is because of the ride and suspension set up. The wheel base of a Dyna is 64.2 and the wheel base of a Roadking is 63.5, the Softail Deluxe has a wheelbase of 64.5. This tiny amount of difference in wheel base does'nt add up to a hill of beans.

I said external "spring/shock" not "external shock".

I had a SuperGlide for years, now its Roadking and Softail Deluxe, won't go back to Dyna.

Dyna FXDB FLSTN

Rake Steering Head/Trail 29.0º / 4.7 in. 32.0º / 5.8 in.

Wheelbase 64.2 in. 64.5 in.

This is what I was talking about. The differences are noticable when riding. Not to mention that the Deluxe weighs 61 lbs more.

Thanks for proving me point.

You brought up wheel base not me when comparing, heres your quote :" My Dyna will out ride any softail. Softails are bigger, heavier and have a longer wheel base which doesn't go well for tight turns".

The difference is .3 of an inch to a Softail and .7 to a Roadking, why did you even bother, you should have checked first, lesson learned.

I recommend that CaptainBarred go check one out and not rely on advise from a gun board. Capt, too bad you live so far away I would have all three of these bikes sitting in my driveway for you to ride including the one pictured in the original post here.

Ride on

Even though I was still right that the wheel base is technically longer, it is heavier and bigger I'll let this go.

You are right and I am wrong. I know nothing compaired to you.

I agree to let it go, your preferences are different than mine, dynas are nice bikes, I saw that you posted somewhere else that you picked up a Roadking Police, also a very nice bike.

Ya know the AMF years were't all that bad, my first new harley was a 1980 FXWG, first year, after getting broadsided by a '72 New Yorker in Boise Id. at 60mph+ and walking away I had nothing but problems "till and complete tear down and reassembly. It lasted 3 years befor stuff started falling off again. Built a 1958 pan chopper started with cases and papers, lasted 11 years and sold it to a californian who really wanted it bad, read MOney.bought a used evo low rider, felt like a monkey on a football, rolled over about 5 shovels and bought a new dyna wide glide ran well but couldn't stand it. New soft tail, it sat untill the wife crashed it 3 years ago, rebuit and sold, new chopper this time evo 110, lotta time and paint, still got that one, and last year new street glide, 103 W the 6 sp, at least this one feels like a harley. the soft tail was too small, 6'3'', 250lbs, the hard tail doesn't have enough clearance, and gives my back hell after 2 or 3 hours, but that bagger once the wobble got worked out with after market support on the underside, is my favorite now. Ahhh but I do remember the 1972 Kaw 750 triple, single ringed and ported that scared every one that road it, those were the days. Beginning to ramble on like an old fart, better shut up and go out to the shop and grin, It don't matter as long as yer in the wind all the little stuff fades away!!
