I am building up my book collection since I love to read and most of the stuff I have is either military or LEO related.

Some great LEO reads I suggest:

Under and alone - William Queen (story of an undercover ATF agent)
Emotional survival for law enforcement - Dr. Kevin Gillmartin
Tactics for Criminal patrol

Military and history:
In Harms way - Doug Stanton
Flags of our fathers - James Bradley
Band of brothers (almost as good as the series) - Stephen Ambrose
In the company of Heros - Michael Durant
Blackhawk down

These can go either way:
On Killing
The Ultimate Sniper ( Maj John Plaster) - awesome!

What say you?

Generation Kill
by Evan Wright

Best military book I have ever read.

It is the story about the 1st Recon spearheading to Baghdad. A great glimpse of the modern day hard charger.

Once I picked it up, I couldn't put it down.
It should be a movie.

+1000000000000 on Under and Alone

Under and Alone is the only book I have read cover to cover in one sitting.

A must read for any cop (or fan of a good true crime story).

Some of my recommendations:

The Hot House: An expose on life inside Leavenworth Fed Pen. A bit dated but solid read. By Peter Earley. All true stories and first hand accounts.

Newjack: The life of a rookie correctional officer in Sing Sing. the author, a journalist by trade, was denied access for his book so he went through the correctional academy and actually got hired as a CO.

You Got Nothing Coming; Notes from a Prison Fish: The author, Jimmy Lerner, was a white collar manager for a major phone company. As series of events lead him to a manslaughter charge and subsequent prison sentence. This is his story of being a 55 year old fish (who has never been in trouble) and his bid to survive in a prison. Not as self-serving as you would think from a con...he is a literate guy and good writer.

I Was a Killer for the Hells Angels : The Story of Serge Quesnal. A Hells Angels hitman turned rat.

A Wayward Angel : The Full-Story of the Hell's Angels by the Former Vice-President of the Oakland Chapter. Old book but a great insight into the golden era of the HA's. Self serving at times, but the info is solid.

The Brotherhoods; Inside the Outlaw Motorcycle Clubs: Inside Austrailian "bikie" gangs.

Hell's Angels : 'Three Can Keep a Secret If Two Are Dead' By Yves Levinge. This guy is supposed to be a Canadian Biker Gang Expert. My first biker read. I don't really know how accurate the info is, but it paints a vivid picture of Biker life in the late 70's early 80s.

One Percent: A photo essay on the Outlaws MC.

Rock Hard : The Autobiography of a Former Alcatraz Inmate. By Leon Whitey Thompson. I actually met this guy at Alcatraz and picked up his book. Great from a historical perspective, but you can tell some of it is fluff.

NON-LE (But good books)

Super Casino : Inside the "New" Las Vegas: Great book on the inside workings and daily routine of the Luxor Casino in Vegas. By Pete Early who wrote the above Hot House book.

Fast Food Nation: An expose' of the fast food industry and what makes it tick.

I was hoping someone mentioned this before I got the chance to. I absolutely hate reading, and I think I finished that book within a few days just because I couldn't put it down. Definately a good read.
