I'm waiting on my permit application to go through, which knowing NY is still going to take forever but I'm looking at pistols so I can get one right away. I want to get a pistol in 40s&w and need some suggestions on which guns are good for concealed carry

The sub-compact Springfield XD is a comfortable carry (and quite reliable), but the sights suck. I had both Glock 22 & 23 in .40S&W, however they are larger and less comfy in a sitting position. I'm sure others will be along shortly with more options and ideas for you.

Me personally, I would go with a .357 Sig (G31,32,33, SW M&P, Sig P226,229) or a 10mm (G20,29, Colt Delta, Dan Wesson 1911).

If you are set on a .40 I would go Glock, S&W M&P, Sig P226 & 229, or a Dan Wesson SSC, in that order. (Dan Wesson is last because of price, it would be at the top of the list if the funds are available).

I've had a G27 for almost 10 years, and carry it concealed almost daily - mostly in an ankle rig. Also have a S&W ultralight in .38 that I carry off duty. Either gun is great - if you want the .40, then Glock is the way to go!

Kahr makes nice slim accurate .40s that are great for carry.

It depends on the climate you live in and your daily outfit. I live in Florida so Glock 27 is my carry choice almost 11 month each year. During one month of cool weather, I carry Glock 23 and sometimes Sig P229.

Glock 23 if you're dead set on a .40, but I'd much prefer a G19 in 9mm. I owned a G23, and hated it. Not because it was a Glock, but because the .40 just isn't comfortable in that size package.

I carry a S&W SW99 in .40. I love it. Built in conjunction with Walther. Comes with extra sights and 3 backstraps for the grip. Has a nice rail up front. Great gun shoots very well with a light trigger.
