I guess the next thing I need (actually, I should say want) is some kind of forend with rails. I'd like something that just is a drop in replacement for the handguard that is there now.

What are some of the recommended parts that fit this bill? Does the heat shield that is there now, under the plastic, remain or does that get replaced as well?

I don't want anything that involves removing the barrel.

Sorry if I have used the wrong terminology, but I am new to all this stuff. Thanks in Advance,

No problem. What you want, is a two piece railed forend, non-free-float style. They install just by removing the stock handguards, and securing them as you would a normal forend. Once installed, some are secured together with screws. Check with our forum sponsors, I believe that more than one carry what you are looking for.

These snap in place of your regular handguards.
No gunsmithing needed.

Thanks for the replies. I did sheck out the sponsors sites. So, accordingly, I have a couple more questions.

The choice for me seems to be betwen Midway Industries and Yankee Hill. Of the two, what would be your preference.

Does either one have the same general oval shape as the standard handguard? Is either one more comfortable to hold while shooting? I don't want to tear up my hand-I don't even know if this is something I should be concerned about.

I lean towards MI cause I think they are sexier animlol.gif

though one nice thing about YH is you can get a sling stud that screws right into the rails...

actually I have been eyeing a pair for a while now...

cheaper than free-floating rails and easier to install.

as far as shape, most are pretty square overall. You can a couple different style rail covers(again check the sponsors sites, Im sure more than one have them) You can get ladders - which just cover the rails with strips of rubber making it softer or bigger peices - the name escapes me right now - but they are like shields, and make the handguards almost round...

But then I got my Addax Gas piston AR. Sure I still have to keep a few small replacement parts, but I'll let you kick me in the balls for every malfunction I have with my Addax GPU, thats how reliable it is!

So far we are at, hold on, let me check..... ZERO!

I ordered the MI, and some low profile rail guards. I have pretty small hands and I did not want rail guards that would increase the size of the grip more than it is now (standard plastic). I wish there was a site to compare diameters of thises kinds of things. Paul at BravoCompany was very helpful, so kudos for excellent service. I'm looking forward to some more play time this wekend.

congrats on the new purchase, now I am envious!
pics and review mandatory upon reciept!!!

Paul, Gmountain has a good point, I have heard a lot of people wonder about the size of rails compared to the standard rails... that might be a good write-up and comparison, the weights one you did previously was outstanding!
