What are the pros and cons of a foreward grip? Ive heard people rail them on this site and pretty much nothing else.

I don't think anyone has disputed having a vfg, rather there has been argument about location of the vfg.

I don't like them. I don't think they are comfortable. They don't make me shoot better. It is a good place for a pressure switch. It's all about what you want.

They have a time and place, I took mine off cuz they kept getting in the way when bench rest shooting & shooting for accuracy.
Now if I was door kicking or chasing bad guys & getting into gun battles in cities like Detroit...........

I used to love Foregrips, but I've decided that grabbing the magwell is just as effective. I found that using the foregrip tended to make me chicken wing a lot more and that is no good. I was taught by someone that you should keep yourself tucked in as tight as possible so you have a smaller profile and it also lets you bring the gun to ready quickly.
I'll probably stop using VFGs from here on out...even though I have long arms, the magwell is just fine.

I use a VFG. It steadies my grip on my weapon and removes instability while shooting. TS

I use them on my guns and I love them. I mainly use them as a reference point for my lights. But even if I dont have a light, I still use them because I like the feel of them. I use mine like TS posted. No broomhandle grip for me.

I like the magwell grip, or a foregrip toward the back of the rail on a carbine. A vertical grip makes a big difference in comfort when carrying the weapon for a long period of time. Whatever makes you comfortable and helps you shoot well. They have a place on some weapons, not so much on others, depending on the role of the weapon.

I have found that I really like a grip like the one in my pic above with or without a light as well. Really, I've found that not having one is uncomfortable for me. I broke that wrist badly in a car wreck and that is probably a factor in it. I agree, a broomhandle grip isn't any more stable than gripping a standard handguard, maybe even less stable. TS

TS I totally forgot about holding it that way. I have not tried that yet...I might give my VFG another go with that way of using it.

After watching a section on the Magpul dynamics video, they mention that the VF should be used as a reference point for where to put your hand. They suggest not broom handling it either.

I use the Tango Down stubbies, in a modified form of the grip TS has in the pic he posted in this thread.
Thats how i was taught to shoot back in the 80's, and thats just the way my hand goes when I grab the carbine.
NOW PLEASE EXCUSE MY HIJACK:
TS - I WILL GIVE YOU...........FOURTY-SEVEN NO! FOURTY NINE DOLLARS FOR THAT M93B ON YOUR RIFLE!!!

Aaaahhhhhh, I knew you wouldn't go for it! I just thought I might catch you half asleep....dealing with the pain of a broken ankle....coming off a 3-day crack bender.......... oh well. your front grip there, you put any back-pressure on the VFG or just rest them there and use yourthumb and first finger for squeeze and pull? I actually shoot with every finger but my pinky up on the rail itself, butt of hand (the "karate-chop" part) against the VFG and pinky around the top of it, and I steady and pull back with my whole hand.

My grip is mainly with my thumb and middle finger, my thumb is engaging the side and top of the rail. My index finger and pinky are cradling the the handguard and the VFG. My ring finger tends to cling to the gap between the rail and the rail. I do pull somewhat to the rear.

gotcha. Looking at the pic again I can see where your middle finger looks like it overlaps your ring finger just a bit, thats probably the angle of the picture and the 90 degree angle of the grip against the rail making it look like that. Thanks!
