What do you do to improve them?

(I just wanted to be the first to post in this forum)

I added a Smith & Alexander arched mainspring housing. It fits my hand better. I've also added VZ canvas grips, and an EGW fring pin stop. I'm running a 20lbs Wolff recoil spring with a shok-buff. I'm either going to start using thinner shok-buffs if I can find them or use a larger (mil-spec) slide release so that I can regain the ability to sling shot the slide shut.

OK, just to add some activity to this forum:

I'm considering polishing the flats of my slide. I think the two tone look is sharp. I'm not worried about diminishing any collector's value 'cause this gun is getting used ALOT! I got it in December 2003 and it already has over 3000 rounds through it. The rails are polishing quite nicely and the slide still fits tight. There are no signs of battering.

I've thought about getting a melt job, as there are a few sharp corners on my DW. But I don't want to have to get it reblued, as it looks so good.

I've got a Colt Delta on the way from an online auction.....it has the slanted cocking serrations so I assume it's the "enhanced" version? Also has a beavertail?

Anyways, I want to get a guide rod and recoil spring(s) for it....
I'll be shooting a lot of mild (PMC, Federal, handloads), plenty of the FBI 190gr 'x' load, and little bit of the DoubleTap stuff thru the ol' girl.

What weight/brand of spring....what one-piece guiderod (full-lenght, personal pref), and what source for these parts?

Thanks
MW

Im kinda 50/50 on full length guide rods. I have one in my new Kimber Stainless target I just got. Its all personal prefrence.

I recommend going with Wolf springs. I'd say go with a 22# or higher myself. Post a question in the Double Tap forum asking Mike what he recommends. You can get your double tap ammo and the wolf sping and guide rod from him in one pop.

If you want to know how to improve the trigger pull check out The Consolidated 1911 Clinic Thread on THR. The advice of 1911Tuner, Old Fuff, et al is invaluable. I rescued my DElite from being traded off due to a horrible and inconsistant trigger pull thanks to their information.

Edit: And we should proabably have a link page with Sean Smith's web site on it.
