Well after having all the componets for a few months I finally found my bench & had a few minutes to spare so I loaded up some of the Redline hardcast 220s.
I was hoping Taos Glock would do it 1st & have all the load data for me whistling.gif wink_anim.gif
I only loaded 14 rds & shot them in my full size witness. Had the stock recoil spring in bacause I had it set up for Silvertip loads.
The load was 8.2-8.5 gr of 800X (not too exact I know, but I was throwing them with a measure & if they hit that window I called it good) in mixed once fired brass. WW LP primers
Pressures looked fine (primers, etc).
Accuracy was clay pigeon at 10 yds every time (again, very scientific I know).
Functioning was so-so. Had several fail to feed (partial feed & hang up. I had them loaded to 1.274 OAL, so I may shorten them up a tad).
Primers have the mark where the firing pin is dragging accross them (breech opening to early?) so I need to stick in a heavier spring. The only one I have is 22# so I'll try it, but I think I'll get a 20# coming.
Velocity spread was pretty wild. From 1072 to 1176 (light spring probably contributes) Of 5 rds I think it went 1176, 1127, 1107, 1140ish, & 1072.
I'll bump it up to 9.0 & stick in the heavy spring.
I'm looking for a bear defence load for hiking & a backup when bowhunting so I want a penetrator & would like to see 1200+fps.
Load was pleasant to shoot.

You beat me to it. Good job. thumbsup.gif
I have been real busy. It is good to know what these sledgehammers will finally do.
Let's hope reliability issues can get resolved.
I have seen 9 grains 800X used in a G29 for 1093 FPS with a 220 gr. West Coast This came from the GT forum and was posted by Mike McNett of Double Tap ammo.
That should start to get close to 1150 fps or more in a longer barrel .

I have also seen him post 10 grains of Blue Dot for 1219 fps from a G20 using a Precision Bullet 220 grain.
So I think 1200 fps, at least in theory, could be attained.

As far as the "sledgehammer" part goes, the only other handloading I'm doing now days is for my 44 mag with 300 & 320gr cast bullets, & my 15" Encore pistol barrel in 450 Marlin with 400 gr bullets, so these are more "tackhammer" bullets in comparison lol_2.gif
I hope to retrieve a couple from a clay bank (my scientific test media) next time I shoot & see how they look.
I loaded a few with 9.0gr of 800x & shortened the OAL to 1.262. Also put in my 22# recoil spring. Left the shock buff out until I try the spring. If everything works good I'll try it with the buff.
Hope to get out this evening & try them. If I do I'll have some velocities & a report tonight.

I also did a little filing on the stock rubber grips of my gun to make it fit my medium size hands a bit better. I'm really looking forward to getting this working well for my woods carry gun.
I have to run to the big city tomorrow (Anchorage, 150 mile drive), so I may look for some Blue Dot while I'm there. My local guy doesn't stock it.

I would use a little more 800x and some LP magnum primers. I use 9.0 gr 800x, CCI 350 primers, 1.26 OAL, and NEW starline brass out of my stock G20. Feeds fine. It flattens the primers and bulges a little bit but it is a Glock. I dont know of the pressure differences between 180 gr I use and those 220's, but at least try LP magnum primers. 2 cents

I'll be following this thread. I bought 3,500 220 West Coast bullets just before Ebay closed down their bullet sales and got a good deal. I haven't worked any loads up yet, but I'm hoping to get 1200 fps out of my STI 6" Eagle. We have some of the same coastal griz down here that you have up there. If a I actually go out to hunt the big griz of course I'd use my Safari Grade Stainless Remington Custom Shop 416. When fishing or hiking I'd prefer not to be encumbered by a rifle knowing I give up a lot in stopping power.

Bumped this old thread, as I just received 1000 RL hardcast 220gn FPs from Dillon. I wanted to load these up for my 1st Gen S&W 610 w/ 6.5" barrel.

Has anyone tried these in their 610 wheely? I saw the autos mentioned above, but got curious as to how a "heavy & fast" load of 220gn FPs in moon clips might due out of the 610's long tube ... unsure.gif

Thanks in advance ... thumb.gif

Work your loads up for the Model 610. When I shoot loads that work well in some of my semi-auto 10mm handguns in my 6.5" Model 610, I sometimes get pressure indications with loads at the upper end, that don't have the same indications in the pistols. I also average between 75 and 100 fps more velocity from the same loads in the 610 vs. the pistols.

The heaviest bullet I've loaded in any of my 10mm's is a 206 grain bullet from my Saeco mold, which is very, very accurate in all my 10mm handguns.

Hope this helps.

Fred

Yes, it does. Thanks Fred.

I'll move up slow. I do have several cannisters of the powders mentioned by the other posters above, in addition to AA #7 and AA #9.

Bumped this one ...

Questions: anyone loading Redline's 220gn 10mm HC FPs with Bullseye, AA7 or AA9 powders?

Same question re RL's 200gn 10mm HC FP slug? Anyone using these powders?

If so, what loads did you find that were accurate (and safe)? Looking for some guidance with these bullets for my 610 wheely, but if you're using these in an auto I can work carefully with the data ...

Thanks! smile.gif
