I was wondering what the total difference was on the 511 and 512. What type of batteries does the 511 and the 512 take? And lastly what ones do you have and what one would you recommend. Thanks. thumb.gif

I have a 512 and it is great but I would recommend one of the new small ones that run on 1 CR123 battery. Very compact yet good battery life.

So does that mean that the 511 also runs on a CR123 battery? My biggest concern about these batteries is the price of these things.

The 511 runs on an N battery. They are harder to find than the AA or the CR123 batteries.

Pigeon -

I have 2 511 models and love them.........buuuuuutttt I am an anal retentive geek who constantly "checks s**t". I have no trouble in my area finding the N cells (they are 1.5v and are strikingly similar to a different voltage battery cell that will blow your Eotech 3 feet off the rail and take your fire control hand with it!!!!!) OKAY, I made that last part up but the wrong battery will fry them, you must make sure they are the N CELLs if you go with the 511. These batteries can sometimes be found in drugstores and pharmacies under the "medical" supply section. I like the small front end on these models and have no trouble turning them off and on when I go train. I have not had any issues with battery terminal corrosion or case leakage, but they are not too terribly abused. I have an aimpoint comp M2 on my primary AR and beat the hell out of it and never turn it off.

I would buy the 511 model again if in the same situation I was before. (Not loving the Aimpoint so much).

Let us know what you decide to go with!

My HOLOsight takes the N batteries. They are impossible to find here. Only RadioShack has them and they want like $6 each. So I just go online and buy like 6 at a time for under $15 shipped.

Hey Anonymous -

Don't know how close you may be to a shopping mall down there, but here are the places I have found the N cells:

Radio Shack ($)
Mall "watch repair" and "battery" kiosks
CVS Pharmacy
Rite Aid Pharmacy
Peoples Drug Stores
Battery Warehouse
Giant Foods
Toys R Us

You're out in the boonies there, man...hope you come across some of them! And remember...when you find them, BUY THEM ALL!!! They freeze well!
