Was looking at eotech website and was wandering what you think of the new ones with ballistic drop. Is it really that big a deal, and is the there a big diff(is it worth it) to get say a 550 series vs 510 series? Money isnt thast big of an issue but dont want to waste money on too many bells and whistles

hey Bigbovine, I was hoping you wanted a review on the much-hated 511 model, cause I'm your man for that! thumbsup.gif ( I have 2 and I think I may be the last member of the 511 booster club...)

I only shoot out to about 150 yards or so with my AR's bud, so I will defer this one to the shooters who will know!!

Ballistic drop and your rifle working with it can be a tough one. Matching the ballistics depends on a lot of factors. Barrel length which has a big effect on the velocity you will achieve and the actual bullet. You have to find out what they used to determine the drop and use it or reload to the same specs. To many variables to me.

I have the 552, it does everything I need it to. If I was planning on shooting that far away I would put a scope on mine. But, when it comes down to it, it's your money to spend so you just have to decide what you want to do with it.

I wouldn't spend the extra. I just use hold over, it's easier to me. Plus I rarely shoot past a 100 or 200 anyway.

hey chris, I just saw your question, sorry I missed it!

The 511 model is hated ( maybe that's too harsh, but if you keep reading, you'll see!) because it is the entry level model, no night vision compatible, and it uses N cell batteries. The big "problem" with it is the N cells...I have no trouble finding them and have built up a nice stash. They don't last very long compared to the AA models, those you can use the super batteries in and stretch their life out. I turn mine off when I am done shooting and they stay off until the next time, and there are no "supercell" N models to my knowledge...

I like them cause they are an inch shorter than the AA models and my first one on my first AR was a 511 and I'm sentimental. Plus, it's really all I need and I'm not into upgrading just for the sake of upgrading...rather spend my cash on more ammo and some training classes..

Thanks. I wanted to get the 511, or one of the shorter models, because it is shorter. I dont plan on having a rail on my AR for a while, because i don't need one other than for a fore grip. All I need is an eotech, BUIS, and one of those LArue 3x mounts. Thanks for your help.

If you are not running NV there is absolutely nothing wrong with the 511. Nor is there anything wrong with owning a 557.

There's nothing wrong having a 557 with bullet drop compensators. It's like the wheel on the A2/A3 or the lever on a Matech BUIS.

Wrong wave length of lights. NVG actuall see in Infra red so any light near the red end of the spectrum actually interfears with the intensifier tubes. To give you an idea a red light flash light can be seen 5 times futher with nvgs than it can with the naked eye. I am not sure what they are doing now but I know that in Dessert Stom we used blue lenses rather than red because of that. In the army we have stopped using any type of red light in the cockpit because just the reflection of red light can shut down goggles.

What he said. The model number has to start with 55. The 552, 553, etc.

For those of you that are not aware of it yet. We just launched the XPS line of sights! They are 3/4 of an inch shorter than the 511 and 551 sights and it runs on a single CR123 (3volt lithium battery). To learn more about them click on this link: To learn more about the XPS

Now that is sweet. I think you'll have at least one customer soon.
