Welcome to the 10mm world ! I would suggest:

Punctuation and paragraphing to make it easier to read
and so we can figure out what your looking for.

I have both Glocks and Witnesses and run them all stock.

I have an Elite Match. They are plenty strong. The cracking issues (recently, say last 5 years) were all related to a slide profile that is not available in the Elite series. They are longer than a Glock 20, with a barrel length of 4.75". (The standard witness is 4.5").

I run mine with a 22lb recoil spring, but never allow the slide to close on an empty magazine.

msg2020, welcome.gif to 10mmtalk!

You would do well to run the the gun stock to test its function. But sqlbullet has the 22#spring and this weight is bing used by many in the various 10mm pistols. I'm using a 22# in the S&W1006 and a 21# in the Glock 29, I fine this spring will run even with 40S&W ammo with conversion barrels aswell.

Best regards!

That Witness will serve you well! So will a Glock
Set them up with 22# spring set from Wolff.

Both are excellent choices in the $ 500 range. Question is are you going to be punching paper or general plinking. Tight groups will be obtainable alot easier with the Elite "Match". The Glock will be satisfactory for everything else. Out of my many 10 mm, the Elite "Match" has been the most accurate shooter I have. I believe the extra attention by Tangfolio gunsmiths and the ergonomics of the pistol itself are directly responsible and the sights are pretty sweet also. I'm still running stock spring setup, fine after 1rst 500 rounds, Wolf #22 in range bag ready to go.

My G20, 3rd gen. only had 200 rounds through it before I retired it to the safe. Wasn't pleased at 15 to 25 yds at the range. After shooting 1911's for 15 years was alittle disapointed in the accuracy. Don't get me wrong, I carry a G29 daily and shoot at least 100 rounds per month for several years now and have become quiet proficient with it using the 357 Sig. configuration. Not to ramble on but I just completed my Lonewolf G20 L set-up and I am now reconsidering the G20. What I used to think of as large grip, now feels more natural and more balanced. With the addition of the ultimate trigger set-up coupled with Ameriglo " Ghost Ring" night sights I am now grouping like I was shooting a 1911. Unfortunately for the price of this set-up you could by an Elite "Match" X 2 and several hundred rounds. Good luck with your decision. Either way you go you will be happy, because if you shoot 10's long enough you will probably end up owning both of them any way
Enjoy the Forum !!!

Just got a 10mm Elite Match a week ago, to replace my standard 10mm Witness which wasn't bad; I just wanted the Match! The Match is very accurate, and the full size steel frame weight helps smooth out the recoil kickback and lessen frame rise for rapid fire shots. Plus, the duo tone frame looks great, more so than the plastic Glock, (just in my opinion). I also have the .40 match barrel from EAA which just drops in, and can use the same 10mm mags, without having to buy .40 specific ones. The drop in barrel is a great option for only $110 plus shipping, as .40 is a bit less expensive, and much easier to find at your local Walmart or Bass Pro.

Incidently, my Elite Match is the new 2009/2010 edition with the tactical frame rail on the underside. Although it has the normal "Match" engraving on the left side of the slide, it also has the model name "Combat Sport 10" in very small lettering on the right side of the slide. Have never heard any one refer to the 10mm Match by the Combat Sport 10 name. Was wondering if that name is new?

I have a friend in LE that has been on the fence for a while. Likes my Elite Match, but wanted something with a rail.

This might push him into the 10mm camp.

Look on the Tanfoglio (Maker of the EAA Witness line) web site. This page: http://www.tanfoglio.it/caratteristiche.php?id=125 - lists all their models. The "Combat Sport" and the "Match" are 2 different models. Check the picture under the "Sport and Competition" heading on the left side of this page: http://www.tanfoglio.it/tanfoglio.php - scroll down and look at pics and description of each model. The hammer and trigger are two of the visible differences. The "Combat Sport" is also described as a double action so it should be easy to tell if you actually received the wrong weapon of if they have made some changes this year and just have not updated their pics and descriptions.
Please post which it is because I am planning on getting a "Match" for Christmas and inquiring minds want to know.

Hi Good News56. No, I didn't get the wrong gun. It is without a question a 10mm Match. It is the two-tone stainless frame, with blued (really more of a flat black) upper, is SA not DA, has the adjustable sights, the heart style hammer, and has the correct 600650 SKU model# bar code tag from EAA saying WITNESSMATCH10MM. It is the same gun pictured in EAA's website and catalog as the Match, and also the same as the Match picture on the Tanfoglio link you listed. The Tanfoglio link shows the Combat Sport to be all blued, with a DA style trigger so assume it is DA (description is in Italian, which I can't speak), standard ring hammer, and is not the gun I bought.

But as I said, while the left side of the slide does have the word "Match" engraved on it, as you see in all standard pictures of the Match, the right side of the slide does have the words "Combat Sport 10" in very small lettering between the ejection port and front cocking serrations. Also, the small manufacturing inspection tag signed by someone @ Tanfoglio, which was enclosed along with the manual, has written on it, "Combat Sport 10" as the "modello", which I'm pretty sure means "model" as it is also written in Italian.

It is a sweet gun, and very accurate. Also, the carrying case is very nice with double combination locks. Only thing different than what is listed on the EAA website is that mine did have the tactical rail, but did not come with a second interchangeable front sight post. I have to call EAA to see if that has changed, or if it got left out of mine by mistake.

While I agree that the mags should work better out of the box, once they are broken in, they will hold all 15 rounds. At least all 4 mags that I have will, though each required me to break them in fairly extensively before they worked perfectly, which they all now do.

See my 11/03/09 post under the thread "Who has EAA Witness 10mm mags in stock and on the cheap?" for how I broke in mine with an Uplula mag loader. Hope it may be of some benefit.

All five of my magazines work fine too. You have to work at it to get the last round or two in, and mine all have +15% wolf mag springs. I had no issues getting the mags to load with the stock springs, but sometimes the follower would bind around the second or third shot giving a failure to feed.

I suspect either EAA or Tanfoglio is sharing the slide between the two guns. The Match goes, at least superficially, through their custom shop. Perhaps they just grab a slide the right length, fit it and engrave it "Match".

chr123, thanks for the update, I can't wait to get one of my own. I like the idea of the rail tho I'll probably never use it. Also nice to know the carrying case is nice.

Never shot an EAA 10mm. How do they compare to the 1006? Anyone have both want to share?
