I recently purchased a S&W 442 for my wife and she really doesn't like the trigger. I've started carrying the thing now that the weather is getting hot and swampy again. This thing is so small, light, and handy that it's really growing on me as a take it anywhere piece. Points nice, puts rounds where I point them. Recoil is manageable, but still seems reasonably powerful (with 135 +p Gold Dots).

Any other j-frame fans?

I think the J-frame is an excellent carry gun. Small, light, easily concealable and those Gold Dot +P's will put a hurtin on anyone.

Get plenty of dry fires in on the trigger-it will really smooth things out. I took mine to work and made everyone there dry fire it at least 100 times.

I like 'em!

They have a decent bit o' snot with +P's in 'em.

Get yerself a set of CTC grips, and you'll be GTG!

Nice!

I've had my 642 for just over two months now and my only regret is not having gotten it sooner. I mostly do pocket carry and the J-frame really is superb in that role. I agree with louie about the Lasergrips. I have them on mine and they do make for an awesome little package.

BTW Doc, are those shotshells in the end slot of your speed strips?

Jacketed Wadcutter rounds. just taking up some space and giving me a tactile reference point with a bit more leverage for stripping the other rounds off.

I carry an old Model 36 (ex Mass State Police gun) every day as a backup in an Alessi Ankle Rig. It's loaded with 148+P LWSC bullets called "SafeStop" which were developed by Jim Cirrilo when he was on the NYPD stakeout squad. There basically a wadcutter loaded backwards with a deep cut across the bullet face. I shot a few to test and these are very nasty rounds which at short distances would do some severe damage! I scored a few boxes a few years ago and there made by a company in Washington state. If you ever come across any at a gunshow, etc, grab them, I have never seen a better round for the 38!

Me too.

I've bobbed the hammer of this 637 since I took the picture.

Great pocket gun.

The J-Frame Rules! I got one for my wife and wound up carrying it so much that I got one for myself. (This is back when I was in GA, a decent carry state)

+1 Easy to carry

Have an old Mod 38 Body Guard and a new SS Mod 637... the one with the exposed hammer.

They fit right in the pocket no muss no fuss.

Love it. I prefer to carry it in a fanny pack or ankle holster most of the time, but I have a DeSantis front pocket holster and a neoprene IWB holster too. I have it loaded with semi-jacketed hollowpoint +Ps.

I'm looking for a slim small 9mm semiauto as an alternative now -- variety is the spice of life!
