Been playing with the reliability of Desert Eagles for many years now. I even ended up resorting to my own design as result.
I may have just found the answer to it's problems.
I bought a bunch of .41 Magnum mags from TaosGlock and converted them to .44 Magnum. They all worked as good as my mags marked .44, but I decided tonight that since I have so many, I might as well use one to do some experimenting with.
I had already previously figured out stuff like extraction failure, shell facing, wrist limp sensitivity etc. For about 5 years now, it was all down to feeding.
With a little tweaking, I now have the gun feeding almost as smooth and easy as my AK. Put anything in there and it just slaps right in to the chamber without a hiccup.
Once I get my camera working again, I will have to show you guys what I did, but it mostly has to do with the shape of the follower, the lips and some changes to the springs.
Before I can be completely confident in the fix, I will have to take the gun shooting. Not sure when that'll happen.
FYI, I made the gun able to handle pretty much anything you put in it by trimming just a tiny bit off of the flat part of the gas piston. I use to have the exact specs. on the before and after changes. I eliminated the shell facing problem by changing the shape of the ejector, which I warn, was tricky business. The wrist limp sensitivity was mostly in the magazine, but I was also able to make a little difference by fluting the bolt. A stripped Desert Eagle slide is actually pretty light weight.
And a reminder for .44 magnum owners, I have a magazine marked: ".41" feeding .44 Magnum ammo better then any of my factory .44 marked mags. .41 Magnum magazines CAN be converted to .44.
