Hi out there, new to the board.
I have a question, it has probably been beaten to death already. I picked up a new 2009 delta elite.
What is the best recoil spring / guide rod arrangement for one ? It seems the stock version that comes with the gun is of no use from what I have read and heard. I put in a EGW single piece full length guide rod, with a wolf 20lb recoil spring, and a shock buff. I tried the same arrangement with a single short guide rod and the action felt very rough, so I opted to leave the full length in. I havent shot it with either yet. The stock arrangement shot flawlessly but everyone says that it will beat the hell out of the gun?
Many say the flgr. is a myth and it only makes the gun harder to disasseble and you run the risk of a complete freeze up requiring shop tools verses field strip (novaks). It sure seems smoother with the flgr.
For medium range loads with an occasional thumper what is the best spring weight?
What is the consensus?

orion, to 10mmTalk! Congradulations with the new Delta Elite as well! I am not to familure with the Delta but have read that the EGW recoil rods were the way to go, some have used springs as high as 24lb, but many have used the 22lb. The buffers can cause issues of their own if they get beat up. There is a difference in feeding the pistol and "HOT Rodding" it! Staying with factory rounds or good quality handloads the pistol should be fine! Good luck, enjoy the pistol and forum!

Orion, welcome to the forum. Grand Haven is one of my favorite places on the "West Coast". I don't own a Delta, but do have full-length "guide rods" in both my Kimbers: .45 ACP and 10mm. Probably a #22 lb. Wolff spring, EGW firing-pin stop, and Wilson guide rod should do the trick. Do they have any, indoor ranges close to your area? I know there are a few in Muskegon. Perhaps one of our Delta owners can chime in on this one. Once more, welcome aboard.

There are no full power indoor ranges nearby. There is one in Muskegon (Port City Pistol), and there is one in Holland, not sure of the name. North Ottawa Rod and Gun has an outdoor range, and a .22 only indoor. North Ottawa is good place, open to the public at a fee. I will probably try the set up I have now unless I hear otherwise, it seems the most recommended are the 22 lb springs, unless using the real nuclear loads, where many recommend the 24 lb to slow the action opening rate.

You might want to invest in an EGW flat bottom firing pin stop, they actually do slow down the unlocking cycle. Read all about the 1911 in 10mm here. 10mm tech notes

Orion: Welcome to the Forum! As far as your Delta Elite is concerned, install the 22-pound spring, an FLGR and a flat-bottomed firing pin stop (from EGW). After that, it is up to you whether, or not, you wish to invest in a "Match" barrel/bushing setup. If you perform all of the aforementioned augmentations, you will be well on your way to having a very accurate and long-lived pistol. While it may seem that such alterations are expensive, you will be rewarded by accuracy, power and fewer frustrations down the road. While the Delta Elite may not be the best 10mm "out of the box" it can still be a platform from which a superb pistol can be built.
Congratulations, and GOOD LUCK!
Scott

well this is my first post and since the Delta Elite is back-ordered I will not be official for a few months but why do you want to change the springs at all (forgive me this is my second pistol my first was a highpoint .45) any thoughts on other stuff to do I hear the new ones have a plastic trigger can that be changed?? and is there any reloading advice that i could squeeze out of y'all. I would ask more but do not know better to ask.
