i am looking for a cope that is decent for an affordable price.....keep in mind i only change tires for a living lol. Something like the rubber coated sniper style ones people talk about, or anything affordable. i got a 16" barreled carbine, so i never shoot over 300 yards, mainly just 50-200. I just need something that will group decent, and also keep the coyote problem down. so just help me out, links and prices help out to....thanks ahead of time.

If you look in the non-ffl items for sale, I think Wolf50guy has some scopes he is selling. Check them out.

i hate to bust your bubble, but i've dealt with cheap scopes most of my life and they have almost all let me down. buy a decent scope and youwill be much happier, much longer. i'm no pro, but a supersniper in 10x might be right up your alley, and they only run about $300. i know that sounds like a lot, but after you ditch a few cheap scopes, you will understand. ETA: anything from wulf50guy is good to go! he won't treat you wrong.

Hey Storm22, I've had the Super Sniper scope. It was good glass for the money and seemed to be repeatable. It certainly gets good marks in the "Tactical for the money" for looks and performance. But...........here's the scope that I settled on. It's a Viper by Vortex Optics. _frt.jpg) _bck.jpg) The clarity and light transmission of this scope is astounding. In the regard, it makes the Super Sniper look like a turd wearing lipstick. It has nice, clearly marked turrents, spring loaded RTZ feature, with easy to read numerals, solid, audible and repeatable clicks. It will definitely box time after time. Because the power maginfication is placed where it can be viewed while behind the scope, then the plex reticle can be used as a choke style rangefinder. Argon filled and probably the best warranty on the market and it's fully transferrable. I picked my 3-9x40 up for $280. I'm of the opinion that it's the best sub-$300 scope on the market, period. Just my .02. Paul

So far we are at, hold on, let me check..... ZERO!

Nope, not illuminated. Hence the price. The style reminds me of Zeiss somewhat. The person that I bought mine from isn't an advertiser here so I won't plug him but I was unsure when I bought and he offered to allow me to check it out and as long as I didn't mount it, he'd refund my money if I wasn't satisfied. But I was. Quality glass for a reasonable price. They are coming out with some type of ballistic reticle next year too. Paul

The scope I use is a Leupold 1X-4X shotgun scope. Its very rugged, will take more recoil than you will ever see in a 5.56mm, small, and I got it for $199. Holds zero, is very clear and has a lifetime warranty. Got mine at Optics Planet. It's good to 300 yards easy. http://www.opticsplanet.net/leupold-vx-i-1...ifle-scope.html

What you don't say is what is affordable and exactly what kind of scope your looking for (i.e variable, fixed, illuminated or not, cross hairs or red dot etc). Will you be shooting in low light conditions or will most of your shooting be done during daylight hours? What kind of shooting do you do mostly? Targets, plinking at cans and at yotes, matches? Lots of variables that you need to define before getting some recommendations.
You will find that the prevailing theory is if you spend $1000 on a rifle, why would you put a cheap $100 scope on it? People will tell you save up and buy something expensive (i.e. Aimpoint, Eotech, Leupold etc). But that isn't necessairly the right choice for everyone. Sometimes, our true needs are really far less than our wants. Don't be persuaded by those that feel they need a top $$$ scope to just to have fun and plink with. Scope snobs exist just like gun snobs. If you're LEO or Mil then it's a different story because you're putting your life on the line. But if you're a Sunday casual shooter like many, a $800 ACOG could be a waste of money (but does look cool to your friends). At the same time don't waste your time with the cheap Chicom products/AirSoft scopes. Those are a waste of time and money for the most part.
Don't overlook a good used scope. There a several available at the sub $200 range. For example I recently saw a used Bushnells 3200 3X9X40 for $150. This was my first scope and I could shoot MOA or less at 200 yards (much of it depends on the shooter not just the equipment). DMS makes a decent 1X4X24 for just a tad above $200 new, sub $200 used. Don't forget that you will need some kind of mount for it, so plan on adding another $60 - $100 plus depending on the mount you buy. A Super Sniper by swfa.com cost more but you have to ask yourself do you really need a 10X or 16X power scope and what do you do for <50 yards? A set of BUIS, a red dot etc?
Think about your style of shooting first to determine what your real needs are and a price range. Then maybe we can make some suggestions that might fill those needs.

Bushnell makes some pretty good inexpensive scopes. I own 2 of the Burris Fullfield II scopes w/Balistic Plex reticles. Some friends also have them and they are really nice scopes for the money.

[quote name='jlshooter' date='January 23rd 2008 6:53 PM' post='306315'] Just picked up a Millet DMS-1. Have only mounted it. No time to get to the range thus far.
How is your Millet scope working out? I have seen their 4-16x Tactical scopes for about $250 or an illuminated one for about $325. Every review I have read says they are great scopes for the money., but I have never had my hands on one. How do they rate? I have a Leupold VX-III on my AR10 but don't want to spend another $600+ to shoot prarie dogs when I already have an eotech 552 and magnifier on my 20" 223. I'm just looking for the highest quality tac scope for under $300.
