im looking to get my first 1911, and 10mm.

out of the many 10mm pistols i have fondled, the DW razorback fit my small hands the best.

what are the +/-'s of the razorback's?

how are the sights on it in the woods/low light conditions?

any advice would be great, as im not 100% sure on it yet.

thanks!

I haven't had one, but I hear lots of good things. I know my DW Valor is a keeper.

The only things that I can tell you are that:

a) The DW Razorback was engineered, from the start, for the 10mm Auto cartridge.

b) There are VERY few alterations to be made in order to feed it a steady diet of full-power loads without damaging the pistol.

c) The DW/CZ pistols are VERY well built. They will likely last as long (or longer) than any Colt, Kimber , Springfield Armory or Taurus.

d) Their pistols are "accurate to a fault". It is how they have been from their inception.

e) The Razorback is an EXCELLENT value for the dollar. Why pay more, and get less?

f) I love mine! (Most Razorback woners will tell you the same thing)!

In order for the Razorback to "digest" a steady diet of full-house loads, on only needs to install an EGW flat-bottomed firing pin stop and a 22-pound recoil spring from Wolff Gunsprings.

The purpose of the EGW Flat-bottomed firing pin stop is to permit some of the slide's recoil energy to be absorbed by the pistol's mainspring (hammer spring). As a result, both the 22-pound recoil spring and the mainspring will reduce the slide velocity, and help prevent peening of the the frame as the slide stops against it. This simply extends the life of the arm by balancing recoil energy with spring tension.

The only reason the round-bottomed firing pin stop was insisted upon being installed by the U.S. military, was to ease the operation of the slide, nothing more.

Dan Wesson makes great firearms, has a stellar reputation for customer service and my only hesitation in buying one would be in choosing which DW I wanted most.

You can check out this site for information on keeping a 1911 chambered in 10mm running happy and healthy.

I have two of the original 1 of 150 guns and I LOOOOVE them. They are the most accurate, smoothest, high power pistols I have ever shot. They are as accurate as my Springfield Omega Match's, and blew my Kimber Stainless Target II's, and Colt Delta Elites/Delta Gold Cups out of the water.

The only negatives is some of the early ones were so tight they needed a few hundred rounds to work in and get 100% reliable but after that, even those are near the perfect 10mm. If you get a chance to get a Razorback, snatch it up and smile all the way to the range and back! bigsmile.gif

Definitely need to lubed well, hand cycled a lot, and then broken in.
The only thing I would like on it is front strap checkering. Not a requirement but I do like what they did on the CBOB.

The RZ is definitely one hell of a 10-I have 3 DWs(pre CZ)-all tight and accurate-intersting to see that one other member of the forum has a SA linkless 10mm. I have one of these puppies and they don't seem to be tbe very common.

These puppies do indeed exist-I have one of them- purchased in 1991]-two tone[sorry-no pics yet as I have no dgital cam or computer literacy]-I have seen one advertised since purchasing mine-in .40 S&W and the 10mm one here owned by banbihunter-am not sure about the internals so I ordered an extra gude rod from Stahl some years ago-paying through the nose to do so=SA doesn't go near warranting these so If they go down-send them to Stahl or convert them to the regular design-SA does not touch them anymore-I love mine and shoot it from time to time-definiteley German engineering

Always had meant to get one before they were discontinued. Here is a scan of the SA ad that came with one of my 1911's:

There aren't too many -'s and LOTS of +'s.... I LOVE my Razorback.... SUPER accurate, reliable and well just great.

As for the sight visibility in the woods, the all black sights are fine, HOWEVER, I sent my RZ slide to Fusion to have them install a nice Fiber Optic sight since I hunt deer every season with my RZ. Works beautifully, even in low light.

My only complaint is the plain sights. I will eventually upgrade to night sights. This gun is good out of the box. I love mine.
