This subject interests me and I didn't want to derail the group buy thread.
Does anyone like compasses anymore? I think they are useful in a lot of situations. i understand how GPs can work, but I think compasses also have a relevant place. Especally if you are planning a route on a topo map, looking for sometiing in the sky, or getting exact bearings, i think compasses are worth having.
They don't suffer from overhead canopy problems that can affect GPS, there are no battery issues, and if the Chinese knock out or GPS syastem, they will still work.
I think learning to use a compass is still a valuable skill.
The only time I had a problem recently was when the TSA wouldn't let me bring my liquid filled compass on board.
