My mom called and told me to find a gun for my dad for Christmas. She wants one that he can carry concealed.

Dad has never owned a handgun but he has been shooting my Glocks and Sigs lately and getting comfortable. He has been shooting rifles since age 3 so gun safety is already engrained. He said a while back that he would never feel comfortable with a hammerless chambered so a G26 is out of the question.

Mom said "not to expensive" because he would not want her spending that much. My reply was "Pretty cheap, like under $600?". I figured that would get it in her head that $300 isn't going to buy a gun that is worth a damn.

So....
Sub Compact
No external safety (preferably)
9mm or .40 S&W
External Hammer
$500 range, give or take.

What does dad need? Used is OK. Maybe a used HK P2000SK? I have considered the revolver option but 5 or 6 isn't many. On the other hand neither is zero.

HELP!,
Jonathan

He wants a hammer and G19 is to big. No way he will carry it all of the time.

A single shot .22 in hand is better than an M249 in the trunk.

It is looking like a Kel-Tec PF-9. I am fairly certain he will carry it almost all of the time.

Wheel gun option is still on the table.

He likes my Sigs a lot but he would never carry one. He might think that he would but I know him better.

To heavy, to bulky, not enough firepower for the level of concealability etc. If he had more pistol experience I would hook him up with an LCP. Sadly .380 ammo is just to rare to learn on.

Woza.....

the LCP is a bulky brick with way less "firepower" when compared to the Sig 239.

Snubby or a Sig. Nothing else reliable/realistic fits the criteria.

I have a XD9SC. It is striker fired and doesnt have a hammer, but the thing will eat any ammo and is reliable. It also has a grip safety.

You should talk him into the G26, reliability, power, capacity, perfect for cc. Kel Tec PF9 is probably your 2nd best bet and you can get some ammo with the money you save but your not going to have near the capacity and although the gun has been updated and "fixed" theres still that doubt that the G26 does not have.

I vote G26 or XD9SC.
