Hello to all, I have been watching the forum for weeks and have come across a Colt Double Eagle in 10mm. I see that it was only in production for a short time and is hard to near impossible to find parts or anything for. In your opinion is this a pistol to get since it would be my first 10mm?

I shoot one that is very reliable. Price would be a deciding factor. $600 or
less would be a good deal, depending on it's condition. That is just my
opinion. thumb.gif

You are correct when you say there are no accessories (they are nonexistent) and parts are now very hard to find. Very few 1911 parts will swap over (barrels, barrel bushings, mags, mag springs, recoil springs, and firing pin stops, but firing pin springs are different). Most gunsmiths don't want to touch them. However, they are pretty nice weapons. I prefer the feel of the DE's over S&W 1026 and 1076's, but don't think they will take the punishment S&W's will. In my opinion, a S&W, a Glock 20, or a 1911 properly set up for full 10mm loads would be a better first 10mm. With one of these you could really explore and experience and the capabilities of the 10mm and decide where you wanted to go for your second, third, fourth, fifth, etc., 'cause you will want more.

The Double Eagle, especially in 10mm, is a rare bird these days. As previously mentioned, there are better choices for a really durable 10mm. Parts for the Double Eagle are hard to find as it was in production for a short period of time.

I have both a 45act and 10mm DE. I love them and it was only Colt's crappy marketing that kept this gun from being an start. The DE was the first ever framed mounted de-cock lever that is so common these days.

FYI I did have both front sights fall off while shooting, but this is standard Colt.

I still have one, but out of extensive 10mm collection, it is my least favorite 10mm to shoot. I have had no reliability issues with it, but my NAA mini-mag is probably more accurate. I hate the trigger on it too. I'd personally get just about any 10mm before the Double Eagle except the I.A.I. Javelina, LaserAim, or Wyoming Arms/Parker.

I too have both the .45 and 10mm DE. Bought them back in 1992. I never shot the .45, have rarely had it out of the box. I do shoot the 10mm often and really like it.
