I've recently acquired a RRA AR.
Love it, got a good deal and I'm learning lots.
But of course it's an AR! I need to make it "mine"!

I have a few long rifles I wanted to make this AR very compact lightweight, but able to really take a busting.
Right now I've added parts that I had laying around. CAA pistol grip, and MOE handguard.
Loving the feel of both.
Originally I considered an ACE skeleton stock.
http://riflestocks.com/catalog/product_inf...products_id=193

But I'm worried about balance and I also plan..at some point to add an EOtech sight, or flashlight.
or both. I mean why not right?

So what stocks are good for breaching type maneuvers?
I have a side folding stock on my 10/22 which is super light weight, but not practical for physical defense.
If someone gets close enough I don't want to be rushing off shots. I have good reflexes but in a panicked situation i could very well miss.
And would like to be able to get physical with either business end of the rifle.
I've considered serrated muzzle brakes, and I'm not ruling it out. But having a solid stock that I could defend myself with would be just one more aid at my disposal.

On the same note, I would like to keep it simple.
Right now I'm just running iron sights. Now I've never used an EOtech sight. I have used cheap(er) holosights that I LOVE.
but for now the irons are fast and require less thinking to use. With a holosight something has to be turned on.
this is why I'm still debating on the sight and flashlight combo.

so to sum this up..because sometimes I just ramble.

I need to know what makes a fast, simple, CQB/CQC build?
what stock?

or do you think I'm doing this all wrong?

I guess you could call this my KISS CQB build.

Well folding stocks won't work on an Ar without extensive modification. Not to mention, I don't think those companies are making the parts you need to do it anymore anyway. As long as you buy a quality stock then it will be, should be, robust. I've got an ACE ARFX-e and it is solid. It's aluminum but not thin aluminum. It's short, very short. So if you have long arms then it might not be the best option, they do have a longer version however. I've got 6 pos stocks, M4 stocks, A2, A1 and the ACE and all of them are strong.

If you plan to do stock butt strikes, you need to use an A1, A2, M4 or an ARFX type stock like Etho mentioned. I would recommend a UBR but you said you wanted to keep it light.

I would definitely get a light for a carbine that's going to be used for the type work yours is for.

A Phantom 5C2 or PWS 556 or Bulldog would be nice and most likely much easier to use with a thrust vs the moves it will take to use the stock for a strike.

A dot sight will be much better for darkness that most crime takes place in. I'm not saying don't use the irons though.

I would go with the LMT SOPMOD for the stock.

The optic I would run either the E-otech or Aimpoint red dot optic, these optics are battle tested and went through abuse in countless enemy encounters. The cheaper red dot you mentioned I would not even consider those with the abuse you have mentioned the rifle may go through.

The flash hider I would run with the Phantom type application, the design of the phantom would definitely hurt anyone on the receiving end of that bad boy.

A light I would go with the M500A if you do not want a vertical grip or if you also want a vertical grip then i would say the M900A, which is a powerful light and very sturdy vertical grip which again both of these lights mentioned are battle tested.

For fast, simple, light, yet solid I think I'd consider the following features.

M4 profile or light weight profiles 14.5" barrel with perm attached FH
Flat top with EOTech and MagPul rear polymer sight
Surefire G3 with shock resistant bezzle
Sully fixed stock or A1 stock for solid performace, with no moving parts, yet compact.

How much breeching are you going to do and are you wearing body armor at the time? If that's the case then a collapsible stock may be prefered, or the Sully.

No armor. But I always shoot from the closed position anyways.

I've thought about the socom stock. But I don't think I would ever use the adjustments.
It looks like im leaning towards an ARFX(E) stock at this point.

Changing the barrel will be an option down the road.
As of now, I don't really want to apply for a SBR tax stamp, though chopping a few inches of the barrel would really benefit me.
I'm just standoffish about it mainly b/c i don't know how to apply, or what money is involved.

Aren't there any resources online about CQB tactics. May be if I knew how I should handle a CQB situation better I would know what to look for as far as parts.

All the info you got was good info. The ARFX-E would be a good stock. An SBR isn't a necessity but a 14.5 inch barrel with a permanent Phantom or PWS 556 would make it a little more handy.

As for CQB tactics, get a copy of Magpul Dynamics Art of the Tactical Carbine 1 (AOTTC), watch it a few hundred times and get the drills down.
