So I tried 1 box of Remington UMC and 2 boxes of Wolf ammo. The UMC did great but the Wolf would only chamber every 1.3 rounds out of 40 rounds (2 mags of 20 rounds each from 2 brand new 30 round mags). Will never get Wolf again! This is in a brand new Bushmaster ORC. Is this something that could be caused by the rifle being new? I couldn't imagine it being so but it is a machine and needs some break in time but failure to feed is not something it should do in my eyes unless it is a normal problem with the ammo. It seems most have problems after using Wolf and then switching to brass. I read TigerStripe's thread on steel cases.

Prvi makes good stuff all along their lines, especially the newer it is.

I've never had problems with UMC .223 in my Mini-14. I've actually shot rounds that ARs couldn't get to go off. Plus I love their brass, no primer crimp
PMC is good stuff, have not had a problem with it in .223
Georgia Arms is my go to place for good inexpensive ammo. I've used their 10mm and .223
No problems with Prvi .223
No problems with Brown Bear .308 ammo
Federal Match .223 ammo is great
American Eagle .308 ammo is great
Anyone having problems with SSA 6.8 ammo?
Jim

I had my first round or UMC mess up on me. But I will admit that it was in a mag that had a known problem. I have a 20 round C prod mag that will lock back with the last round in the mag, or push it forward about halfway, and then lock. It pushed the round forward some and pushed the bullet in the case.
I like having this mag though. It is a good training tool for clearing a malf.

These rifles seem to have lives of their own, what one will eat, another one chokes on. It amazes me to read UMC sucks, wolf bites, then the next guy writes it's all good here. It's a funny, funny thing and it doesn't seem to matter from one mfg to another. Smitty

If you're using Remingtom UMC and it works, let us know about it. If another brand or particular .223/5.56 load is causing you problem, report that as well. We're not trying to steer anyone away from any brand or load, we just report ammo that has had or has been having problems to everyone so money isn't being wasted.
Wolf and other Russian steel case ammo is a completely different thing.

+1 on Georgia Arms - NEVER a hiccup, and I run it in my POF-415. Privi is good, but dirty - they seat the bullets with TAR, so keep 'er lubed and/or CLEAN in your DI guns! PMC is reliable, but a wee underpowered compared to spec M193. In an overgassed rifle, like an M&P15, it won't be a problem. If you have BIG gas ports or a heavy buffer/spring, you may have cycling problems. Or not. FYI.

QUOTE (Stecon50 @ March 16th 2009 4:58 PM) Dont know if anyone has any experience with Georgia Arms ammo, www.georgia-arms.com, but I ordered a bulk quantity of FMJ's before they ran out of casings and will report in when I receive them. Did you ever get this ammo and try it?

Just went to the range with a new Bushmaster. Brought a lot of different rounds with me, UMC, Winchester, Prvi, Magtech, and Federal. Shot about 300 rounds in total - not a problem with any of them. And it was real nice to finally get something through it...

Shot 100 rounds of it this weekend. Zero problems.
Only rounds I ever had trouble with was some tracer rounds I got. The bullets were going back in the case.

one more for UMC sucks. I have run through a few boxes and I have maybe 5 or 6 at home that are dented bad enough that they wouldn't load and at least one that the round pushed into the case. I thought it was the Magazine or the gun at first but I have run 800 Rounds-ish of PMC Bronze through the same gun and Magazines with 0 Failure.

I recnetly went out to a shoot with a local PD, and they had two brand new cases of the Rem. UMC. 55 grain.
I saw quite a few rounds with primers installed backwards, poor or no crimping, and some bullets were not seated very well.
I can't stand that level of poor quality.
I would rather shoot Wolf Brass cased ammunition vs. this stuff.

I still buy UMC sometimes, but Ill usually buy the Federal 100 packs for plinking. If someone coming shooting with me wants some bullets to shoot, they will usually have a few boxes of UMC and run them through my gun. I will run the UMC if its all I have. But Id rather use Federal, but thats only because of what Ive heard. Only had one problem with UMC and it was with a bad mag.

IMHO UMC is descent ammo, i had a few rounds mess up. 4 rounds pushed up into the brass, 2 of those using my fingernail. 4 rounds out of a thousand isnt bad for plinking i guess.
