Dont know if anyone has any experience with Georgia Arms ammo, www.georgia-arms.com, but I ordered a bulk quantity of FMJ's before they ran out of casings and will report in when I receive them.

Great company and great ammo... been shooting their stuff for many years. I thought a recent order of 1k .308 match was 4 short but a recount proved that my math was wrong. Only 4 lightly dinged cases... and a free ammo box to boot. BTW... the 4 dinged cases at fired and were on target. Georgia Arms is GTG.

Federal American Eagle.

Huh.

Hell, who knows what is and isn't a good price on ammo anymore.
I hate to reply like this, but really, what do I know?
I haven't bought any ammo in close to a year.
$0.46 per round is about the going rate for this stuff, I guess.

I buy Federal because I like their brass, which I reload.

For reference, I bought some of this, 2K rounds, for somewhere around $325 per 1K (Midway or AMMOMAN, most likely), a while back. I'm sure I paid nearly top dollar at that time, due to the fact that Cabela's (and Midway), sell ammo for considerably more than the typical bulk ammo dealers. Have you surfed AMMOMAN'S site? He usually has decent prices. He's right across the river from me, in Jerrrrsey, and usually carries FED.

What the heck? If you need ammo, then I'd say place an order with them, and see what happens. I certainly don't see prices coming down anytime soon, that's for sure. Keep an eye on AMMOMAN, and some of the other vendors out there. If you're not particular, you may find some mil-surp for a decent price. If you intend to eventually get into reloading, be sure to get Boxer-primed ammo.

Midway has FED AE for .$99.99 per 200.(0.50 per round)

(Looks like Cabela's is competitive on price.)

Widener's has some Wolf Boxer primed 55gr. Hollow Point for $305.00 per 1K,
and some Wolf 55GR FMJ for $152.50 per 500 rnds. (I don't know if this is Boxer primed.)

Just BEWARE Remington UMC has been reported to be problematic in some AR's.

I'm still surprized to hear this about Remington UMC, as I've used their ammom in pistols, revolvers and my .270 win for years thumb.gif . Being that I'm still new to AR's this is very disappointing to hear this about UMC, is it from rushing .223 to market or has Q.C. just gone to $hit with them? I haven't bought ANY ammo from them in a year plus, I like Winchester for personal resasons.

Well, everything I have heard says stay away from Wolf. Steel caseings are coated with laquer to seal them, gun gets hot and laquer melts.

the newer wolf ammo uses polymer instead of laquer, which doesn't melt like the laquer. Still, my stag model 2 jams with wolf once the chamber gets hot, now i wish i hadnt bought a case of 500

Any opinions on PMC Bronze .223 ? I ordered some as it seems cheap relative to what 223 sells for these days.

No negative reports on PMC. If we get (several) negative reports it will be listed in the first post. If we get a single report there may be a thread on it.

Wolf ammo now comes with a Polymer coating which will not melt like the older laquer coating. You can shoot the older stuff, just be aware that you have to clean up after yourself. I personally enjoy taking the gun apart and cleaning almost as much as I do shooting. As stated in the previous post Wolf will run in soom guns and not in others. My DPMS eats it fine.

You might want to add the orange box reloaded HSM ammo.

A google hunt will tell you some horror stories of cracked bolt carriers and KB's!

They call this stuff "police ammo" and don't even mark anywhere on the box it is reloaded ammo.

Worse it is not once fired brass either. Police Ammo actually means they buy all the excess mixed brass from police training ranges and reload it. And then the police trade in the used back for more reloads. No telling how many times that case was reloaded! No telling what kind of case either. It will always be a mixed lot.

Sad thing is they do sell new ammo that is quite good from what I've read at specialty sniper forums. But you don't see it on the shelves or online, except direct from them.

Until this company gets their labeling and QC reorganized I highly recommend passing this stuff by even though the price will temp you.

Wow, I run the Remington UMC (GREEN AND WHITE BOX) through my RRA Tactical Carbine all the time and never a jam and it's very accurate. HMM, maybe I'm just lucky I guess. I've see some in a bulk yellow but never tried that.
