Well i just moved with my mom into a new house (saving money while in college... lame i know) but its also nice to have a reloading setup. So we have an unfinished storage room in the basement and i get a wall for my setup. I have a friend who works at a counter top production plant and he snared me a couple of reject counter tops that will fill my 7' perfectly. So now i have to design a bench to build.

I was thinking bar highth? Any specific measurement?

What do you guys think about shelf layout in the botom? or Top?

I would like to build a system so that i can store the bigger stuff (tumbler, trimmer, scale, etc...) and a ton of other junk that we reloaders/hunters manage to accrue and then get the top setup so i have shelves to neatly stack the powder, bullets, brass storage containers etc....

Thanks guys!

I keep the stuff like powder, brass and bullets on a shelf to the left of the bench. Underneath the bench is where I store the tumbler, scale, extra urrets and dies, etc. I like everything easy to get at and labeled. Wifey has a label maker. It's her gun thumb.gif

I have my components on shelves above and parts and other stuff below so I know where everything is. Sounds like your on the right track with the plans.

PS Where in ND are you from? I go back to Harvey area every summer

My main bench, I do bullets and brass below the bench due to weight. Above the bench (It has shelve doors which I keep closed), I keep primers, just the powder I'm using, and tools (hand tools and dies).

My bulk powder, I keep on another shelf farther away in case of an accident for safety sake.

I have limited space so it works pretty well for me. I have to stand up to get into the upper shelves so due to what's in there, not in there too often, only during setup. The stuff I need to access more frequently is below and I can pull as needed as I load with minimal effort or time.

As I load, I use loading trays plus a box for bullets, but I always seem to be going "Damn" finding something on the brass I don't like then needing to replace it or when I missed my count on say bullets taking from bulk to my loading bench. Primers because of the way they are packaged, are pretty easy to keep track of.

Just like your reloading equipment, your bench should be to minimize labor content, time.

You may want to try this. I use Averay computer labels. Using word you can type them a whole page at a time different labels or one at a time by counting the rows. You can also write on them.

My 11' bench top sets on 4X4 legs with 2X4 stringers between the legs. I took a 1X12 and laid it across the stringers. I use the underneath area to hold brass and my powder is on a shelf above the bench along with a shelf of shooting/reloading books.

My 6" bench is also set up with the stingers but there is a chopped top entertainment center slid into its bottom interior. This is where I store most of my bullets. It will hold about 40,000 without a strain.

My primers are stored away from the bench in a converted double closet. My bulk powders are stored here also in a seperate section. I use separate book cases to hold loaded ammo, die sets and general loading stuff.

Alright, hope to start today if i don't turn lazy and decide to take a nap. Planning on screwing a 2x2 on to the back wall and side wall, then using 2 4x4's as support legs out front. Should be able to hold the weight easily. I figure since i am also planning on mounting the press towards the front the 4x4's will be able to hold the strain. Going to leave the bottom empty and plan on building some rolling carts/cabinets later. Also going to mount 2 rows of shelves (match the top) to the wall on half of the bench, then was thinking of doing some custom variable sized shelving on the other side for misc. stuff.

I will post pics when i get started
