You got Bears in your back yards...so I say that qualifies as Rural!

Welcome to the Armory!

Welcome to the Armory!

We've spoken before on other pages here, but I guess I'll say hello on this page. I'm born and raised in Anchorage, although I wouldn't mind having some land somewhere I can set up a range next to my house. Having to drive 10 miles to the range here is mildly annoying (either rabbit creek or Fort Rich Sport Range).

I feel kind of like an imposter on this website because I don't own an AR15 (anymore), I just like talking to everyone because they're so knowledgeable about everything I have questions for.

I built an AR carbine, but with every intension to sell it, which I did for about a $200 profit. With that money I went out and got myself a nice, pretty little 20" barreled MSAR AUG clone. Side note: what does BBL stand for? I see it on a lot of forums when mentioning the barrel. I image one B stands for barrel and the L probably stands for Length, but I'm not sure what the middle B stands for. Side note over.

Anyway, my armament right now consists of:

16" Arsenal Saiga 7.62x39
20" MSAR STG E4 556 (the "E" models accept AR15 mags which is handy)
6" Desert Eagle .50AE and
18/20" (not sure) Remington 870 with 7 cap tube

I'm about to order myself a Glock 20C, and after that I'm either going to get a lever action rifle (thinking 45-70 or .44M), a double barrel shotgun (just like the look, and I've seen them for 200 bucks which is less than I spend on ammo for my Assault rifles), or maybe a new AK, because I've got a ton of parts left over from my last two builds (before the 16" was a 20" stock saiga in 7.62 that I did the pistol grip conversion for and sold) and I really enjoy working with that platform.

Don't really think I want an AR. If I do end up getting one, I'm looking at ADDAX because I don't like the regular AR function with the gas tube, I just don't know much about ADDAX other than: everyone wants one, they're expensive, they're flawless, and everyone wants one.

Thanks for the introduction. I was also born and raised in Anchorage, but moved out the Bush when I was young.

Don't feel bad about not owning and AR, this is a great place to do research and get what you want. The BBL generally stands for Bull Barrel. Sounds like you have a nice sollection, far better than mine was when I was your age.

I think you would be happy with Addax, they are a great company and even better people.

Thanks and stay warm!

Hey, thanks. It has been pretty warm here yesterday and today. I know it's either global warming, or just whatever tropical storm is messing with us this year, but we have had an awful influx of negative this week, 20s the next week, 30s the next week, then negative the next week. I'm sure there are plenty of places in AK that weather like that is normal, but not for Anchorage. We're generally pretty temperate, and our temperature changes are usually pretty sane.

You know, I've seen the term "Bull Barrel Length" before, I just never quite understood what the "Bull" part meant. I've always felt silly saying "I have a 16" Arsenal Saiga" because obviously the weapon isn't 16", so I guess from now on I'll pose it as "I have an Arsenal Saiga with 16" BBL".

Thank you for the compliment. I am quite impressed with my collection as well. Sometimes I just sit back and stare. I didn't get my first gun until 19 (a used mossberg 500 with pistol grip pump and pistol grip handle for $170) and so I felt like I was behind the power curve. Then I got my first hand gun (A Springfield XD 40 with Fiberoptic sights) at 20 years old, but when I was 21, I just went nuts, and started buying and selling like crazy. My girlfriend hates that every month I'd have one or two different guns then the month before, but after I made quite a few dollars profit modding the stock weapons I kept getting, she shut up about it. However, now with my Saiga, MSAR, and Desert Eagle I am fairly happy, and don't plan on selling either rifles (unless someone offered me more than would cost me to buy them again). The Eagle I'm not going to sell period.

Maybe I should just go to the Addax website (haven't been there before) and just check it out, but how does it work? Is it similar to the HK 416 (I don't know how that works either, just asking)? I'm kind of assuming that instead of the little gas tube that most ARs have, it's got a little gas piston like my AK? (not necessarily the same design and all, but instead of just a tube, it's got a piston for the gas to strike). And do they still require the buffer tube and buffer on an AR? I know there is some platform of AR that lets you have a folding stock, but I've heard they run like 3,000. Maybe that will change when ACRs and SCARs start flooding the market.
