How old do you need to be in your state to buy an AR??

My girly fell in love with the AR on our last outting, and wants one for herself now that I'm getting one!! She's 19..and I know you have to be 21 to buy handguns..what about an AR?

Its 18 for rifles, 21 for handguns. If you have a girl who likes EBRs, I'd say she's a keeper. Buy her one. It will be the best $1k you spend.

I think we're planning on going up there next Monday actually smiley_smartass.gif I have enough for a 20% down at Gander.. so I'm going to see the price/selection (what I want) at Jensen's and if they do lay-away thumb.gif

I'm just lookin for something basic as it'll just get a tactical light, and red-dot sight. Oh and a sling too. I'm not crazy into mods like most you guys laugh.gif

I'm not buying her one laugh.gif she has a job smiley_smartass.gif

She has great aim though. Hit her 1'x1' target at 200yrds with the .270 on our last range trip. That was standing up, holding a fairly heavy riffle too smile.gif

Most states are 18 and 21 for handguns because that's federal law. Only if your state likes to torque the rules more will that change.

[edit] But I'm pretty sure you can own them sooner if a parent gives it to you as a gift. So she could own a pistol at 19 if daddy gets if for her. And you could sell it to her daddy for a $1 if you trusted him to pass it along.

What about me selling a handgun directly to her?

Only reason I'd do that though, is if she took a CCW class. She's not as gun nutty as me, but would like to have one for protection.

You can't sell it to her because she isn't old enough to buy it. Giving it to her would be a gray area that I'm not qualified to talk about. If you don't trust her dad then her mom is allowed to do the deed as well. If neither are trustworthy enough then she likely needs to wait. It may seem like a long time, but less than two years is a blink of an eye to us old farts. Until then she can guard her property with an AR or shotgun. Guaranteed to make the thugs pause a bit. Outside you can be the loyal boyfriend that protects her with your CCW weapon. Most girls like having a bodyguard on their arm. wink.gif

As for a CCW, you would have to ask them. They might let her take the class but her age might preclude getting the state license. Ask a local CCW certified instructor.

Yeah, I'm sure a thug would run seeing a chick holding a 30rnd AR smiley_smartass.gif

See this is what I don't clearly understand.. why can a mother/father give their child a firearm, but another legal age person can't, knowing she can legally own a firearm (no charges against/pending)? She is of legal age, considerd an "adult" as her parents are no longer liable for her saftey/well-being...

I wouldn't buy her a firearm personally. I don't do that for anyone.. but be interesting to know.

Only a few places where bedrock is exposed in MS, and even fewer where it is exposed in a large enough area to matter. Oh well, more sediments, soils, and hydrogeological processes to go around.

Parents always have special legal exceptions with their kids.

You can't buy beer until you are 21, but your parents are certainly allowed by law to let a 16 year old have a glass of wine at dinner. If anyone else did it then they are guilty of the crime of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Now if you were married to her then you would be getting special exemption there too. You might be the only one allowed to buy it, but by law it is as much hers as yours. She couldn't buy beer either, but in your home your 19 year old wife can help you drink that beer.

You never know....

Don't burn that bridge simply because you might want something later. Keep the option on the table until you actually do split up.

Wish I had that sense when I was young and handsome. Sent some great gals packing back then simply because I thought we were getting too close. Now I'm almost 50 and still unmarried. Trust me, the gals at my age aren't near as good looking anymore. I wouldn't settle down then and now I might just have to settle for what I can get.

Not saying you should go shopping for rings, but just don't slam the door shut early simply because you think you are too young.

Yeah the door isnt closed, but we still have awhile before that comes. We've lived together nearly a year now with little issues.

Plus she's almost 5yrs younger than me..so I'm interested to see what she becomes looks/personality wise when she reaches the ages of 21-24 really.gif

Trust me, the good ones keep getting prettier and more fun all the way to their early 30's.

Youthful bounce is great and all, but a 27 year old who has finally figured out what methods make her prettier is far more stunning. They also like sex more as they age. Never a bad thing that!

Just keep on doing what you are doing until the wheels come off. If the wheels stay on then you've got a "keeper".

Yep, me too! thumb.gif Between my wife's Charger R/T, my 2008 Yamaha R6, my computer, garage upgrades, gun stuff, house upgrades, more gun stuff and all the baby stuff my wife likes to buy I am strapped. However, we cannot take it with us so spend it right? I am sure I am forgetting some other stuff too. BRD isn't all that bad though. You can do a little at a time.
