Hello to all you reloading experts!

I have been thinking it is time to replace my old balance beam scale with an electronic scale.
Having a hard time deciding between Dillon's D-Terminator,
Dillon Precision
and UniqueTek's High-Precision Electronic Powder Scale
UniqueTek.com
I have not had any experiance with electronic scales and was wondering if anyone could shed some wisdom on this.
From what I have read alot of peaple like the Dillon scale, but I have not seen reports on UniqueTek and was wonderingif it is possible for a scale
to be too precise, to the point it becomes a pain to use.

Thanks in advance,
Dale

i go the lyman 1200dps3 and love it. stores an infinite range of load data and is accurate with the dispenser so far without the use of a trickler.

pdog and I have the lyman 1000 xp. I like mine and pdog seems to like his. They don't do all of the fancy stuff some do, but, they seem to be consistent. If just a Basic electronic scale is what you are looking for, for the money I'd buy one again thumb.gif

Do not buy the cheap Cabela's digital scale. It is slow and loses zero over time.

I got so frustrated with it I finally bought a Hornady balance beam scale and it works great. It's quick to settle down and stays on zero.

I would only buy a digital scale if I was planning to load some precision loads for rifle and then I would get the RCBS Chargemaster setup.

Otherwise for simple weighing of charges I find the balance beam scale to work just fine.

One word of caution on the Lyman DPS 1200: keep your cell phone away from it; mine will go crazy if I have the phone on my hip while using it. EXTREMELY inconsistent loads, getting very frustrated, got a call, moved away, set the phone down, came back, re-zeroed (like the 15th time!), phone's over there, no more problems.

Check out suppliers of jeweler scales I have a jennings which is accurate to 0.1 grains for about 40$.

http://www.oldwillknottscales.com/diamond-...lry-scales.aspx

Just check to be sure that they have weighing mode in grains which the jennings does.

I have an old digital pact II model scale...not sure if its made anymore or not. I do know it was fairly inexpensive at the time I bought it and it works great.

I also own a Lyman DPS 1200.....I had to purchase the speed upgrade as mine was an earlier model, it is quite a bit faster. One problem you will run into is dispensing powders like 4831...you have to screw in the black adapter to restrict the kernels some to get an accurate dispense. I had lost my part and contacted lyman, they gladly sent me a replacement free of charge.

Now if you just need a scale and want something small, MTM now produces an almost pocket sized digital scale for 40.00 retail. The scale itself is pocket sized, but the case its held in with other parts takes up a little more room. The only trick is whatever you want to weigh you have to place in the center of the pan/sensor to get an accurate reading. Just a minor complaint and something you need to be aware of if you go with this. Has been reviewed in a few magazines and they noted the same problem, but otherwise gave it good reviews. Unfortunately the reviews on midways website suggest early ones were problematic. Maybe its been fixed, maybe not. Then again, there arent too many powder scales on midway that got good reviews at all.

Sinclair has some very high end scales....in the neighborhood of 300 dollars. I think at that price I would be looking at the lyman dps 1200 to get a scale/dispenser in one unit.

+1 on the RCBS chargemaster combo. Until you run a progressive reloader (even if you do for some stuff) , it is the greatest thing since reloading. Very accurate and quick. Worth every penny. I too felt like an idiot for not having one a long time ago after I tried it.
