Just got my new AR in last week and am looking for a scope to put on the rifle. I will post some pics when I get it tricked out. It is a 16" barrel and I plan to use the rifle to put the whoop on feral hogs at 100-150yds and the occasional skunk. Any suggestions that won't break the bank?

Thanks!!

Go and take a look at optics planet.com ....they have a bunch of scopes where you can get a idea of what ya want and price ranges. And evan have some good deals. Of course if you want a red dot ya can get in on the strikefire group buy. If you looking for a variable power scope then take a look and see whats in your price range.

If there are any decent shops in your area, take a closer look at some of their offerings - see if their dot/reticle works for you. I discovered astigmatism the HARD way - after I'd already PAID FOR my EOTech 557! sad.gif

Take a look at the AR15Armory optics photo thread. There are photos of all kinds of different optics, mounted on guns.

If you don't mind me asking, what is "breaking the bank" in your book?

I am a fan of the Accupoint, nice variable scope that is <$1000. thumb.gif

take a look at the vortex line of scopes. I have been really happy with mine as have a few of my friends. you get good bang for your buck and they have great warranty and customer service. I am running a 4-12x40 diamondback on my AR. I mostly plink with it now but am getting into hunting some coyote.

I tried to put a cheap scope, sub 100$ on a riffle a couple of times and never was happy with the results. As a previous poster said try and hit up a retailer in the area to check out a few and see what you think.

Thanks for the help guys. To answer your questions about "how much is breaking the bank" my definition and my wife's are a little different--ha. I am looking to spend around $500+/-. I am looking at the Millet Tatical 10X fixed it is on sale at Optics Planet for $350, supposedly $200 off. Any feedback on the Millett?

You would be much better off with the SWFA 3x9 variable scope.

Fixed high magnification scopes are limiting. I would look into a variable. JMO.

I'd go with the Leupold Mark AR 1.5-4x and stick it in a LaRue LT104 with 1" or you could get it in 30mm and get the 1" adapter.
