QUOTE (B Coyote @ November 10th 2005 9:05 PM) I voted Glock 17 because the Glock 19 was not listed as an option.
bc Why is the 19 that much better?

It's just a tad smaller. It conceals MUCH better. Still large enough for an exposed holster gun, though. Still holds 15+1, which is the same as the 92f-series or Sig P226 in common form. Simply, it will do everything the G17 will, but it's a better CCW pistol on top of it. I have a LOT of years, miles, and rounds on a G19. IMO, it truly is as close to perfect as I've found in a defensive handgun. If my PD said I could have a 9mm...I'd switch back in a heartbeat. bc Edited to add: Clicky.

Have owned or shot all of them. Currently own CZ, Walther, SIG, S&W and HK 9mm pistols. Never warmed up to the Glocks in any caliber. Usually a 1911 kinda guy.
The P7s are head and shoulders better than anything else on this list. Not cheap. Different manual of arms. Very well made. Handle recoil VERY well. Very accurate. Very fast.
A P7M8 is my summer carry gun. Would not trust my life to less if limited to a 9mm!

Lots of good options. I own 3 of them, and have shot 3 others.
I voted Beretta, since that's the 9mm with the most lead down the pipe. Great trigger, accurate, only 4 hangups out of 8-9K rds, and only caused by junk ammo. My complaints would be huge grip, and wieght.
G17... Yep, it digests everything. Accurate, light (for a service-sized gun), easy to learn and train with. I'm just not wild about the grip angle, grip size, or trigger.
Smith 9mm auto, and I'm throwing in my M&P9L Longslide. Accurate, digests everything, light (sounds familiar?), but it has a nice trigger (almost as smooth as the M92FS), smaller grip with the small backstrap, and better grip angle. It should be at the top of my 9mm list, but the Beretta has more trigger time, and is a bit near and dear to my heart.
Shot a friend's Tanfoglio Witness (CZ75) and it was a sweet shooter. A bit bulky, had goofy controls, and needed more slide serrations, but had a nice trigger and was accurate.
Shot a friend's HK USP 9mm. Felt alot like my M&P9, but had a Beretta-like trigger and larger grip. I liked it, besides the "re-engineer the world" mag release. (ok, it's not that bad)
Shot a friend's Sig226. Very Beretta-like, with a better grip all together. I likey.

I voted for the High Power as I have a couple of them and find them to be excellent for my usage. I do however feel that the poll is fallacious in that you forgot the COLT 1911 !!!! What's up with that????? I shoot 1911's or their variants and the transition from one to the other is so much easier when all the surfaces are in the same place. How many of you guys own 10 or 12 Glocks or SIG's or HK's? The SD factor is a major consideration when choosing but I think the ability to use them in various competitions is a plus for the 1911 format. Bullseye, IPSC, IDPA, Bowling Pins, or PPC all seem to favor the 1911 and I know that any trigger time is a plus for application of learned skills. Greg

My wife would shot a 9mm. Real men carry 1911 .45ACPs.

This obsession with big calibers is so boring.
Obviously I am not a real man, I like the Walther PPS, CZ85, Beretta Storm SC, Beretta 92, Sigs, The Glock 19.

I had to pick the P-series Ruger because I have one, i really would like to have a H&K or 1911 in 9mm but i have put thousands of rounds through my Ruger and never had a single problem with it, i think im up to about 5000 but not exactly sure, the only thing i have done to it is put a hogue wraparound grip on it, the gun comes up nice and is more accurate than i am. Sure there a nicer looking guns out there, and sure there are better feeling or more concealable guns, but if that ruger gats burried i could dig it up, hose it off and it would keep on shooting.
the big caliber thing gets so old, you get into the " mine is bigger than yours" contest and you take all the pleasure out of shooting, i mean ya my .44 rem mag is really cool and fun to shoot about a box through but after that you want to pick up something else. the most fun i have is when i bring my 9 and a 22 and try to be as accurate as possible.

Obviously I am not a real man, I like the Walther PPS, CZ85, Beretta Storm SC, Beretta 92, Sigs, The Glock 19. I've shot most of the guns listed but only owned a Kahr 9mm which was a good little gun. Next purchase will be another 9mm maybe pushing into 40 S&W- big maybe. If I need more power at short range I need to seriously re-evaluate whether or not I should be using a pistol. (shotgun with slugs, carbine) Let's face it, sidearms are best used on small game and people.

Must get another G19... must get another G19... I wonder when the 4th gens will be in the stores?

I voted XD-9. It had the most comfortable ergonomics of anything I picked up (although the S&W M&P was a close second), and everybody knows they're reliable.
