Looking to build a pig gun, and due to the range of the 7.62x39, would want to keep the targets within 150 feet. Thinking about a red dot sight, or similar, but need to decide on a gun first. I have an SKS, but the gun never really felt right to me. DOn't know if that makes sense. Want to be able to put a can on it in the future, and try to load subsonics, which means I need a 1:10 barrel or faster. I would have to say that accuracy and reliability are at the top of the list, with aesthetics and price towards the bottom. I want a detachable magazin because of ease of unloading, and a dcent trigger would be nice too.
Saigas are $350, and I have found a few Ar uppers in the $675 range. No idea on the AK.

I'm thinking AK or Saiga for what you want. G2 triggers are decent.
I personally find the SKS to be about right. They point nice for me, seem a bit more "sporterish". The mag is easy to dump for unloading and the ones I've had were reliable and a touch more accurate than most AKs. They usually suck with detachable mags, and they are not really supressor friendly.
