I bet I picked this up at a Hiram Maxim shoot years ago but I cant really remember.

I know it's brazilian and I had read issues of a lot of CBC ammo from 1975 blowing up guns.

This stuff is marked as follows:

There are also different stamps on the back of the boxes.

It's brass cased ball and the headstamp is FR on top, then two stars and 7.62 on the bottom.

Is this safe to shoot/trade?

TIA!

Not really sure.... but I would be willing to test it for you!!! flea.gif

Someone more knowledgeable may come along.....

Also, try a board on AK/SKS's, since they know lots about 7.62.

If you are really worried about it, pop the rounds and use 'em to re-load.

Was what you read about related to powder or the shells?

But then I got my Addax Gas piston AR. Sure I still have to keep a few small replacement parts, but I'll let you kick me in the balls for every malfunction I have with my Addax GPU, thats how reliable it is!

So far we are at, hold on, let me check..... ZERO!

Man - I don't know anything about that stuff. It'll be interesting to see if louie's search turns something up.

340 total. Not a ton but these days I'd be stoked to find 50rds kicking around.

I don't reload.

I'm not sure what the issue was. It's likely a non issue as the problem rounds were made by a different brazilian company (I found out through further googling).

I just wanted to ask in case someone had experience good or bad with this particular type.

The brass is a bit tarnished.....reminiscent of the chilean shit I was getting years ago for MG shoots.

I don't have a semi-auto in 7.62x51 anymore or I would just run through it.

It's not getting shot through the bolt gun....I'll tell you that bigsmile.gif

If I had something fun.....like for instance.....a saiga .308 I would do just that flea.gif wink.gif

I think I bought it when I had an FAL and a couple M1a's. Plus we were running a buddy's HK51 solid for a summer. That goes quick.

VTD,

Check here:

Headstamp Codes

Scroll down and you'll find it is in fact Brazillian. It is not fom CBC, but from Fábrica do Realengo, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

I can't, however, find anybody that has this specific mil-surp. A few folks do have FR ammo; and they use it in their M-1A's. No problems reported.

HTH.

Give me another day or so, and maybe somebody can give me a better answer. unsure.gif

A buddy might be coming down with a belt fed to run it through in a week or two. If I decide not to shoot it, I'll throw it up for sale on this board :)
