My AR is zeroed in right now for M193 55 gr. I'm looking at picking up around 500 rounds of some good self-defense ammo (damn this stuff is expensive) and was considering 75 gr. TAP. Does anyone know how different the POI will be with the TAP firing down range? Would the 55. gr. TAP be a better choice? I don't want to have to zero my rifle in everytime I switch between ammo, and considering how much cheaper M193 is than TAP I would like to stick with M193 as my main ammo. I'm looking for ammo that will cause the most devastation over a variety of ranges (penetration is good).

Thanks.

For home defense the difference would be relatively minor, but a good bit different at longer distances. I would look at the link in this post for some more info on non-FMJ defensive rounds.

My rifle is zeroed at 50 yds on my RDS, using Federal M193. I shot a 20rd box of 5.56 TAP 75gr T2 (you're right, the stuff is pricey) and noticed almost no difference at 50yd and maybe an inch at 100yd. Unless you are going to be sniping people past 200yds, you should be GTG.

Unless you live in a mansion with rooms that are several hundred yards long I wouldn't worry about it for home defense.

Should be just fine on any piece of property smaller than a couple acres. A lost inch or so doesn't matter much shooting center mass. In a home defense situation your adrenaline level will make more of a difference in POI.
