You guys with .308 and 6.8, what's the cost difference for ammo if any?

It's about the same unless you can find surplus 308 for $399/1000

You could carry a lot more 6.8 than .308 and it's much more powerful than 5.56...

I think that's the major advantage. The 308's performance will be light years better at long range, but if I was shooting at short to moderate range and didn't need the 308's punch, I'd happily trade a lot of weight for a little bit of energy. At a sane range the only real disadvantage is not being able to go to a local fun shop and grab a box of ammo if you leave your special recipe at home.

Question is...why SPC and not Grendel? *furiously stirs pot* smiley_smartass.gif

All the armies of Europe and Asia could not by force take a drink from the Ohio River, or make a track on Blue Ridge in the trial of a thousand years. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of free men, we shall live forever, or die by suicide.”—Abraham Lincoln

I've been shooting 308 for a long time but what the base doesn't supply, I reload. Built a 6.8 recently and bought a couple boxes of ammo with sticker shock! I didn't realize that ammo had gone up so much. I am definitely reloading the 6.8 now also.
