I have a .50 Beowulf upper and every time we fire it the shell will extract from the chamber but it wont kick out of the upper and it will then jam against the shell that is feeding in.Does anyone know what might be causing this?

it's either hitting the reciever or not fully clearing the extractor, best thing I can think of is the extractor upgrade kits

I thought it might help if I upload a photo of the condition after it fires and then one after the final round.

and here it is on the last round

Looks like it's not clearing the ejector. Has it always done that? Or is it a recent occurrence? If it's new I'd send it back to armalite and have them replace it, if it's not, i'd get the extractor upgrade.

I had similar problems with a 6.5 Grendel. The extractor had a couple of burrs, so it would not let loose of the case rim easily enough. A light touch with a Swiss needle file and a polishing fixed everything very quickly.

It's also possible the bolt is cycling too fast, not giving the ejector time enough to kick the empty out. A heavier buffer or a stronger buffer spring to slow things down a little bit might help. Been there and done that also.

coupla things to try in order to sort out where the issue is occuring, manually load one live round without a magazine, fire and see if it clears upon extraction. Second lock the bolt to the rear, put an already spent round in the chamber and ride the bolt forward, with a round in the mag insert the mag and pull the charging handle and see what happens.

Looks like a extractor and ejector arm malfunction.

Push the ejector in with a punch and see if it travels smoothly. The extractor is doing its job pulling it clear of the chamber. Also check the gas key screws.

I'm not familiar with the BeoWulf platform is it usually built on a standard 5.56 upper as this appears to be? I'm looking at four possibles for the problem. The first is the ejection port looks pretty damned tight for that round, if it were mine I'd relieve the upper portion at least a good 1/8". Second is in the first pic, but without knowing if that round chambering was pushed up while the extracting round was going to rear or coming back forward again is something we need clarification on. Third one is in the second pic, it appears as if either the claw is not releasing the round more than likely it has either a burr/s or is too small for the casing lip. Fourth and final is as Lon suggested.

Back in town but headed out to deer hunt this weekend.I might take the .50 with me and test it while I'm out on the farm.Just a thought,The bolt on the .50 Beowulf is the same as the bolt on my 7.62 x39 isnt it? I could take that bolt with me and see if it works.

Well I took the bolt out to look at it and try some of the things you have suggested when I noticed that there was no extracter spring or pin in the bolt! and it came from Alexander that way...so I took the spring/pin/roll pin out of a Rock River bolt I had in another gun and installed it in the .50 bolt and low and behold it worked just fine.I wouldnt have thought to look for that on a brand new upper. At least it was an easy fix and it wont cost but a few dollars to replace the missing parts.

Must have vibrated loose in shipping. Because they certainly wouldn't have missed that at QC. Good to hear it was an easy fix.
