What is the difference between a 4506 8 round 45acp mag and a standard 1006 magazine? Can I replace the spring and follower from a 4506 mag to make it work in the 1006?

No, you can't use 4506 magazines in your 1006 because 4500 Series magazines are wider and won't fit in 1000 Series mag wells. Even if they would fit, you probably wouldn't want to use them because the .45 mags lack the Accu-Guide "dimples" located at the top of the 10mm mags. S&W developed the 10mm Accu-Guide mags to keep the rounds from moving too far forward under recoil which had initially been a problem. The Accu-Guide dimples contact the case rim; this limits the cartridge's forward movement and prevents related stoppages.
