Hey Armory, I have a quick question for ya'll. I'm looking into a .44 revolver. But not sure what brand to go with. I like the look of a 3" or 4" barrel and blued if I can have it my way. If anyone has a great revolver let me know or if you like one model over the next let me know! Pics would be great too!
Thanks!

Is there any better choice than a Super Blackhawk?

QUOTE (Gmountain @ November 4th 2009 5:25 PM) Is there any better choice than a Super Blackhawk? That would be my choice too, but they don't make em with 3 or 4 inch barrels. If you want a double action with a 4 inch barrel (as short as I would want to go with a .44 magnum) either the S&W or the Taurus would serve you well. Taurus revolvers are less problematic than their semi-autos.

If you are looking for a hunting gun a 6-1/2" barrel is the way to go. Either the Smith 629 or a Super Blackhawk. My Smith 29 Classic was very accurate, especially with 300 gr loads.

I was "thinking" more on the lines of a carry gun while outdoors..that's the reasoning behind the smaller barrel.

If you are going to Alaska you might want to invest in a .454 Causul. It's a .45 magnum, and pretty effective against a charging bear... if you are lucky enough to penetrate the 4 or 5 inches of bone protecting its brain.

I've got a 29 and a SB. I prefer to shoot the 29 because I can run double action quite nicely thanks to my competitive shooting. The SB will take a hotter hand load then the 29 though. Given a 4" gun for back up I'd go with the Smith though I believe a 4" Redhawk is available. The SB cut back would do well also and should not cost that much to modify.

I have a Ruger Super Redhawk and it is a Freaking hand Cannon! I have the "9 barrel and it suits me for a hunting side arm - trajectory is about flat at 100 yards... I carry a Glock 21 (45 cal) for backup. I've shot hogs with the super redhawk and they all fell over dead where they stood...I imagine it would do the same to a man if he were unfortunate enough to get in the way of a bullet... As for using it for a general purpose fire arm I'd only recommend it in grizzly country... The Super Red hawk has a " fall away safety if that matters to you.
Good luck - there are a lot of fine fire arms available out there...
