I had a problem with my Olympic Arms 22 conversion kit for my AR-15.
(Without going into too much detail, a very important pin that helps hold it together worked it's way loose, and wouldn't stay in there...so after only a few shots I had to pull the whole thing out of my rifle one piece at a time and reassemble it putting that pin back in place knowing it wouldn't last very long....and worry about losing a spring or other small part in the process. )
Anyway, Olympic Arms offered to fix it for me under warranty, if i mailed it back to them (Can't blame them...they needed to see it for themselves to see if there were any other problems instead of just mailing me a new pin)...but I didn't really want to wait that long for it...so I decided to go see if a local gunsmith could help me out.....
I can't tell you how many places I went to yesterday........I started at Murphy's Gun shop and Gunsmithing (Notice Gunsmithing is part of their name, and all over their sign) because it is the closest place to my house that advertises these services. I go in there, and they tell me that they don't actually do gunsmithing anymore...they only sell stuff now....but they referred me to another place nearby. I went there, and the guy working said he only works on stocks...the guy that could help with my problem was on vacation, try back on Monday....then I went to a couple of other places...none of which could help me for various reasons.....and worked my way south.
Then I get to 2nd Amendment Sports over on Pima. As usual the place is pretty busy, so I go to the back counter near where the gunsmithing area is and wait my turn. The guys ask if they can help me, and I explain my situation...and they say hold on a second they'll get the gunsmith out here to look at it....so he comes out and I explain my situation to him...and ask if he thinks he can help...and he says...hold on a sec let me see what I've got...I assume he's going to go see if he has a pin the right size and sell it to me.....so he takes my conversion kit in the back...and a few minutes later he comes out and hands it to me, and says....hows that look? He had already fixed it, and it looked like brand new (actually a sturdier looking pin than what it originally came with) I asked how much I owed him and he said "nothing".
So, I got it fixed for free without waiting for the mail to go back and forth between here and Olympic Arms, and if I'd have just started there in the first place I'd have been done in 15 minutes instead of the hours I actually spent trying to get this accomplished.
From now on, even though it's a little further drive for me, it will be my first stop.
