I'm going to buy 2 new pistols this year, one a small conceal carry weapon and a 1911. This will be my first 1911. I budgeted up to $1200. Would rather spend less but don't mind gong up some if the quality warrants it. I will carry t occasionally and shoot it a fair amount. I would like something of heirloom quality however. I've read all these threads on here and it seems like the DW's are suggested in the upper end of my price range while Springer loaded's have been uggested quite often for a bit less but I thought I would ask for myself.

The term heirloom quality is important. I'm assuming the $1200 is for the 1911 and not both guns. Kimbers are pretty popular but I think they're overpriced for what you get. I've also seen them be a little finicky with ammo. I prefer Colt and Sig. I don't know if you can get out and shoot some to find your preference or not but one thing I look for is the ability to field strip it without a tool. There are a lot of good options in your price range though. Colt Gold Cup?

Thanks, yes the $1200 was for the 1911. There's not really any way I had to go shoot all of the ones i was considering. I ordered a Dan Wesson CBOB late last week and it should be here soon. I wanted to shoot all of the ones I was interested in but the local gun range had none of them so I just had to take a leap of faith.

You made a good choice my friend. If you get a chance do us a favor and post some pics and/or a range report. Enjoy! thumbsup.gif

You can get a respectable SA for $1,200. thumb.gif If you do not want a SA go for a COLT. smile.gif INHO a COLT is a better gun than S&W.
