my father, who is as fickle as I am , is back looking at 1911's He had a Colt 1911 Officers model a long time ago and has always regretted selling it. Right now he is looking at Kimbers, but I am trying to convince him to get the Springfield one that looks like the WW2 model ike what G3 has. What do you guys suggest, keep in mind he doesnt want to spend a whole lot... so try and keep all suggestions sub-$800.

If it's cool... its probably banned in NY.... QUOTE (captainbarred @ July 24th 2009 8:27 PM) But then I got my Addax Gas piston AR. Sure I still have to keep a few small replacement parts, but I'll let you kick me in the balls for every malfunction I have with my Addax GPU, thats how reliable it is!
So far we are at, hold on, let me check..... ZERO!

I keep going back to the Springfield Loaded models. Too much bang for the buck, best value out there in a new 1911. I've looked at many, many, many others, and while the Loaded will never be mistaken for a Les Baer, you're also paying less than a quarter of what a Baer costs. Last I saw, you could find a parkerized loaded for around $500 or so, high end being around $550.

The Novak night sights alone are worth the extra $$$. Jay

I sold all of my Clot 1911's and my 20" HBAR if that means anything to you CB. I never had a problem with their quality, but their politics suck.

QUOTE (wetidlerjr @ February 2nd 2006 5:58 PM) Buy a Colt. That is all I own and all I will ever own. Judging by some of the pics you've posted, you own some damn nice Colts. Sadly, their inattention to their customers, and pandering to the anti-gunners, leaves me cold. Their refusal to sell post-ban rifles, and their decision to punish dealers that sell LE marked rifles to civillians is insane. They're free to do it, but I won't support them with my money while they do.

QUOTE (g3shooter @ February 2nd 2006 9:50 PM) I love my GI version. I think they are pretty sexy in a clean line throw back sort of way. Some people don't like their U.S. grips, but I'm partial to them myself. Jay

The Springfield Armory's USGI pistols have an internal lock if that means anything to you. That means you have to repair this factory-induced damage with another mainspring housing.

MSH's are cheap and easy to come by. No problem to swap the locking-one out for a decent one.

clot sucks. Their customer service is so bad it's pathetic. Their custom shop is just as bad. I know this from personal experience.
Sure, you get the clot name on your gun, big friggin' deal.

Jay The Colt company that makes AR rifles is a different company than the Colt company that makes 1911s. Colt Defense - ARs Colt MFG - 1911, SAA

Jay Not at all. They're great high-quality pistols, like S&W's. They both happen to have a factory-induced error in them that needs repair. Doesn't mean that I dislike them, only that specific, easily corrected policy.

Doesn't mean that I dislike them, only that specific, easily corrected policy. My TRP and Loaded both have the ILS. I have sent more rounds than I can count out of those two pistols. It has never been a problem. I don't use it, but it doesn't effect anything. I do plan on changing the main spring housing in my loaded, but only because I prefer a checkered-flat MSH. Jay

Colt Defense - ARs Colt MFG - 1911, SAA They may be two different companies, but they share the same name (which happens to be SHIT in my eyes). bc

bc S&W was on my bad guys list from their antics during the Klinton era. But if I understand correctly, they have an entirely new ownership, so I may re-evaluate my position. By the way, they are jumping into the AR15 market in 2006.
