was shooting my Les Baer Stinger the other day. For some reason, the slide stop wouldn't release when pulling the slide back and 'slingshotting' it.

I stripped it, inspected everything, reassembled....same problem. This pistol was still digesting everything I fed it, but this was something that's never happened before. WEIRD

Bottom line is this: If you have multiple 1911s, in multiple barrel lengths....

KEEP YER DAMN RECOIL SPRINGS SEPARATE AND IN ORIGINAL PACKAGING!

Turns out, a full size recoil spring will not only fit in a commander length pistol, it will also cycle the action and shoot just fine...ya just can't get the damn slide all the way back to release the slide stop.

so endeth the lesson....

This update is a little late, but ya really have to watch this if you have a 5" and a 4.25".....shooting my commander length pistol with a govt length recoil spring cracked my barrel bushing. sad.gif

When the spring stacked up, the slide still had a little way to travel....the bushing took the full force of the recoil. Easy replacement, but I sure wasn't expecting it.
