Ladies and Gents,

I finally found a local smith who will work on 3rd Generation S&W Auto's. I had him do a complete action job on my 1006, 1066, 4566 with excellent results. He polishes all the usual parts and installs a new spring kit and lowers the felt pull by at least 2lbs and so smooth. I also had him recrown the barrels. Triggers break nice and clean in SA and the DA pull is still heavy but so much more silky. All this for only $160 per gun. Needless to say, I am extremely happy with the results.

Cracker, You had to have the Kase Reeder Widow maker 1006 trigger worked on? I would have thought they would have smoothed that thing out like silk. Congradulations on getting them smoothed up! thumb.gif

Outstanding! thumb.gif

P.S.- For those that don't have a local gunsmith to work on their 10xx series pistols, Novak does an excellent job and they're intimately familiar with them (Wayne Novak was on retainer w/S&W and played a major part in their design).

I have 2 1006's. I have the Kase Reeder Model and a stock one. The stock 1006 is the one that I had the action work done on. Definitely quite a bit less expensive than sending to Novaks at a $40 charge on top of the work. I also believe Novaks charge is more if I recall since I brought the Novaks work sheet with me to my Gunsmith so he knew what I wanted. Overall, very pleased. The trigger on the stock 1006 is actually better than the one by Kase Reeder.

Novak's charge for an action job on a 3rd Gen Smith is $125. I think that's very reasonable and certainly not what I would call expensive.

It sounds like your gunsmith did a great job at a good price, but for those who must send off their 3rd Gen Smiths for work, I think Novak's (or the factory if you don't mind a 6 to 8 week wait) is the way to go.

I always wanted to visit the shop. Just a short drive from me here in WV. My wife is from Parkersburg.

I finally got to take my toys out for some shooting. I shot a S&W 4566, 1066, DW RZ-10, Kimber Eclipse Pro II 45acp, and an STI Spartan 45acp.

The 4566 and 1066 were the ones I got work on and am extremely pleased. Extremely accurate with no hiccups in over 400 rds. You gotta like the 3rd gen smith's. The RZ shot well also. I have not put much thru it but it is broken in now with close to 500 rds. The kimber is sweet also. Between my Father, me and my Marine Son, we shot close to 2 thousand rounds thru all guns. A very good day indeed.
