Hello all,

I'm a new member and I currently own just two 10mm handguns.

A Colt Delta Elite with a handfitted Barsto barrel/bushing unit, LPA adjustable rear sight, Wilson trigger, extended thumb safety, factory recoil spring setup replaced with a steel Colt short guide and a Wilson #22 spring, Pachmayr flat MSH, and a trigger job resulting in a "glass rod" 4 pound pull.

In the Ransom Rest my modified DE will do one inch groups at 25 yards with the Winchester 175 gr STHP factory load. Handloads with 180 gr FMJ's run about 1.5 inches.

My other 10mm is one of the Ruger "Buckeye Specials" NM Blackhawks Convertibles. Other cylinder is chambered for the .38-40 WCF. This revolver is dead stock except for a set of Pachmayr Presentation neoprene grips. Whenever one of my shooting pals wishes that Ruger made a 10mm, I pull the Blackhawk out and tell them that they did over 10 years ago.

The Blackhawk is almost as accurate as the DE in the Ransom Rest. Perhaps fine tuning handloads would improve the accuracy but I haven't gotten around to that. Besides, one can hardly complain about 1.50-1.75 inch groups out of a $350 revolver. I wish I could shoot that well.......

Hello Bum,:welcome:
Perhaps you can answer a question. I always heard it told that originally was produced as the.38-40WCF and the 10MM cylinder was an after thought. Do you know if thats true? Does the frame itself have a caliber designation stamped on it? If so is it stamped "Caliber 10MM" or "38-40WCF" or both? I have an A Uberti & Co Thunderer convertible in caliber 45Colt/45ACP, it came from the factory with the 45Colt cylinder installed and a 45ACP cylinder in the box so marked. The 45Colt cylinder is not stamped but the frame is stamped 45Colt.(sorry for rambling) In any case I am envious  and will buy one if I ever get the chance. Also post some photos if you can I would love to see them. By the way here is my other 10MM, a convertible of sorts just no need to swap cylinders.

10MM Gary

I dug the Ruger out of the safe and on the left side of the frame under the cylinder window it is marked ".38-40 & 10MM CONV." The 10mm cylinder is rollmarked "10 MM AUTO" and the .38-40 is rollmarked ".38-40 WINCHESTER".

It is my recollection that this Buckeye Special was introduced as a special edition for Buckeye Sports of Ohio back in 1991. I bought mine NIB in 1993 and they were still available from Buckeye Sports at that time. Apparently this model didn't sell as well as their other Special, the .32 Convertible Blackhawk (.32-20 WCF & .32 H&R Magnum). BTW I have one of those as well.

The last time I saw a .38-40/10mm Special listed on Guns America it was priced at $550 NIB. That was several years ago. I haven't kept up with prices and have no idea what one would be worth today.

I handload both rounds, but I mostly shoot 10mm in the Blackhawk.

I hear they also made a convertible that included a 40 s&w cylinder that could be reamed out to 10mm. Not that long ago.
Matter of fact, they still made one, at last report.
