Anyone ever notice how perfect the 10mm auto fits in an HK .45 USP magazine. Too bad they don’t make the 10mm UPS.

If the rounds fit the magazine, then you could have a barrel manufacturer cut you a 10mm barrel with the outside profile of the USP45. You'll still have to deal with the reduced extraction reliability that goes with shooting a 10mm cartridge on a 45ACP breechface, but it would be a quite and easy swap.

Look at my recent legal thread in this section. Especially to Californians, where high-caps are banned, this may have more value then just a USP conversion.

In this case you could adjust the extractor and get it to grip the 10mm cartridge but the ejector sits too low to hit the case of a 10mm. I tried. Why doesn't HK make a 10mm USP.

Why doesn't all the manufactures make 10mm pistols? Seems some are trying, who knows may HK could step up too!

Best of luck! thumbsup.gif

With the USP's dual spring recoil system (which was engineered to allow sustained firing of +P .45ACP ammo without problem) it would make an excelent 10mm platform. I've daydreamed about a 10mm USP Expert or Mark-23 many times.

Our issue .45ACP ammo is Federal +P 230 JHP that pushes 930 FPS outa my USP. It loves this stuff. I've put more than 2000 rounds of it through this weapon (which has somewhere around 15K total rounds of various types through it without problem). Guys have had problems with Sig P220's and this ammo, including parts breakage. When firing this ammo I can actualy feel the difference in the functioning of my VS standard pressure and target ammo. I can feel the secondary spring compress much more with the +P. With other .45ACP pistols I can feel the abruptly slide smack the frame at full recoil. Not so with the USP. If the breachface and extractor issues could be dealt with to my satifaction I'd be all over this conversion on a USP (or a factory 10mm USP of course). Probably will experiment with .45 Super or .460 Rowland in a USP Expert at some point instead though...

I'm always watching the H&K new product announcements!

How about installing a USP 40 Extractor into the Slide of the USP 45? That should resolve that issue. The remaining issue would be the frame mounted Ejector.

A custom barrel, slightly heavier springs, modified ejector (and extractor) and you'll be "good to go"! This isn't a state secret.

All the conversions I have seen have been on USP 40's. Has anyone seen a USP 45 conversion? Converting a USP 45 would sure solve the magazine and ejection port problems.

If I had the machinery to do what was needed this would be the platform I would try it with. The extractor would be a minor issue that would be easy to solve. The ejector would be a little bit trickier because you would have to machine the channel in the slide a little higher to allow for the taller ejector. The trickiest part would probably be having to tighten up the dimension on the breech face of the slide so the 10mm shell can't slide to the left and slip off the extractor. This would probably involve some welding and accurate machining to correct.

I just wish HK would make this gun in the 10mm. I have 2 fullsize USP 45's and they chew up and spit out any ammo I've ever run through them. They especially love the Double Tap 230g Gold Dot ammo and come back on target quickly with even this powerful round.

Quite a bit more involved than just that. Although I'm sure someone good could get it done.
