What parts are important to keep on hand as spares for the AR? And are there any parts which I should keep more than one spare? I guess the logical next question is what tools are essential to have?

Tools: Strap wrench. Castle nut wrench. Brass punches.

Spare parts: Firing pins, springs, pins, extractor, detents, a bolt if you can afford it, gas rings.

Sounds like they have it nailed down. The DPMS Armorer wrench is much better than most castle nut wrenches and has a lot of extra tools for other uses.

Whenever I order from Brownells or Midway I always add in some springs or pins or firing pins. Little parts, cost next to nothing, and in no time it's easy to acquire a decent spare parts kit.
