Hello to everybody.

My Name is Mike, i live in Mannheim - Germany (an i am a german dispite my english name).

I struggled for some time what semiautomatic rifle to buy. In Germany you get a maximum of 3 semis' without trouble and i already have an M1 Garand(great rifle, i love it).

First i wanted to buy a SG 550 from Sig Sauer (Sig Arms i think in the US) but then opted for a Sabre Defence XR 15 Benchrest with a 24'' Barrel.
Ordered it on Wednesday and got it delivered on Thursday.
Have only fired a couple of shots but i already like it.
I understand that the AR 15 needs alot of care and maintenance but where to start as a newbie????

I hope to get some help in this forum and get in touch with people wo know alot about this rifle family.

yours
Mike

Welcome Mike!

You've come to the right place for information. The AR is a reliable gun that will run fine, as long as you clean it when you are finished shooting, and you keep it lubed up. It is a proven design in use throughout the world, and the bugs have been worked out of it.

I love the M1 Garand also.

Welcome Mike! Glad you have joined us.

What is this "care and maintenance" you speak of?

laugh.gif

I think people exagerrate when saying the AR15 needs "a lot" of maintenence.

It doesn't need any more than most weapons.

Wilkommen!! I spent 3.5 years in Mainz-Finthen assigned there while in the Army. Traveled to Mannheim among many other places too. I miss it very much but will one day return to visit again. There is a lot of information available on AR-15 and clones. Specific questions will get better responses I've found. Ifrst off, what will it's set-up be? CQB or Longer range/Target shooting? That is the best place to start. Will you be considering a "standard/conventional" operation or a "piston" styled? Cleaning is less "intensive" than the conventional in a piston operated version. The reason is because the gas and carbon are ejected out of a port rather than being blown into the upper receiver. Just a couple of points to start from. Enjoy your stay smile.gif

Hi!

Don't forget to stop at my place wenn you visit germany!!!
So setup for my XR15 is for long range target shooting. Therefore it has a 24'' Bull Barrel. Maybe in a year or two i intend to buy a new upper with a shorter barrel, because i want to start with IPSC Rifle shooting. But for now i am happy with the long barrel.
It is a conventional system - no piston. Is it true that the psiton systems are less accurate because the piston system creates more recoil and vibrations???
